You don’t need kcn for gaining a color. Developer can also give you a warm color.

My longest one was over 20 minutes. Outside.
Of course the camera was in the shade.
And can always place a wet towel inside the bellows to prevent the plate from drying.

Here you can see how to measure it quite accurate.

You can even clean your glass plates with old collodion left overs.
Most effective way to clean glass
Comets are caused by dust particles. Mostly fallen on the plate AFTER the plate is placed into the plate holder.
So make sure you are using a clean plate holder. After exposed take out the plate...
Just noticed the 2029..... can’t change it anymore
Changed!!!!
Recently I had the honor to make this triptych of Jimmy Nelson. An amazing photographer who is traveling all over the world and making breathtaking work, mostly analog. His two books 'Before they...
This might be an option. Surely for a relatively short petzval.

As Rudi says, it made it possible to use the front part only as a landscape lens.
As far as i know it wasn’t meant to correct anything.
Mount it (the ridges) towards the grinded side of your ground glass and it will have the same effect.
But than it is protected by the glass
Not when you want to shoot wide open on a bright day.
Just do it your self

But what’s the effect on the balsam when it gets in contact with the side of the glass elements?
Definately not 400mm.
That size is a 300mm lens. I have two with exactly the same size.
My advice when you start with wet plate: workshop.
After that: start small.
It’s like digital camera’s. The greed for bigger plates is like the greed for more pixels.
But your picture will not...
Take of the cap and hold it in front of the lens instead of pulling it of.
With wet or dry plate it works fine because of the low iso value. No vibration and always ready the exact monent.
Steven, i don’t think you really need a petzval that big to cover 8x10”.
I have been using 300mm hermagis petzvals for 8x10 without any problem.
You win. Good luck!
Next time check what was being used in the pharmaceitical bottle...
If you know the difference between fungus and separation of the balsem you wouldn’t post these links.
Both lenses shown in these links have a separation problem and that’s a totally different thing....
Coated lenses were already used during wwII. Not only after.
I wasn’t refering to the ansco camera. I was speaking in general.
It was invented in 1935, the Germans started using it already at tbe...
And tbe coating was invented in 1935. So maybe these lenses were already coated
No, i just said I have never ever seen a non coated lens with fungus.
So i really would like to see a picture of it.
Show me one single picture of a non coated lens with fungus please.
While using a smooth backdrop you will never see swirl. Even when using it wide open.
You will only see it when the background has a certain pattern or outside when there is a background with leaves...
When it is a non coated kens it can't be fungus.
Fungus only grows on coated lenses.
Have you checked the glass for writings?
Most of the time the year of build was written on the side of the front glass.
Hust curious, why do you need 1000mm+ for 11x14"?
You are right!
Yes, no problem. Stainless will do the job
Thank Steven for all tbe work!!
Regarding to your new Hermagis.
Are you sure it's something originally made by Hermagis?
I have never seen it before.
Just a silk stocking covering any lens....
As i love the (swirly) softnes of a petzval i hardly ever stop down a lens.
if you want to stop down a petzcal you can also just use a more modern, smaller lens.
I am sure a clever buyer contacted them directly and offered a double amount of money..... And no, not me.
Machining a new flange wasn't an idea. Sure he knew that himself....
Has something been changed on EBay? I always could find the sold item by using the above mentioned numbers.
But that isn't working anymore
A 250mm for 8 x 10"is rather short. It morely will act like a wide-angle.
You won't notice the swirls when using a even background.
For 8 x 10"i prefer to use at least 350mm.
For my storytelling...
As you will shoot landscapes you don't need fast petzval lenses. Just look for a zeiss jena or a but slower but tack sharp apo ronar lenses. They are rather but but very good.
How big was the Hermagis globe?
I have one in my collection.
It has a beautiful change apparture mechanism.
