Re: A good read......"Art and Fear"

This is one of the best readings I ever had on photography. I read it again and again, as it seems to help me getting off ruts I tend to fall in.

Down Boulevard Beaumarchais you'll find one for sure.

My favourite address is "Le Grand Format" , at number 54.

Re: CF vs Aluminum, 4 vs 3 leg

My Tachihara 4x5 feels fine on a Velbon CF645, it is about the same weight as your camera + lens setup.

The tripod is quite compact and sturdy enough, so it is my favourite for hiking.

A Berlebach might be an option to consider. This one : http://www.taos-photographic.com/product/berlebach/trepied-berlebach-9033p/ is just at 3kg, will hold 8Kg.

Is there a way to get it in Europe for a normal price ? I'm drooling over it but the postage would double the price, and I'd rather buy film for this amount.

    Re: Tripod Query -Which Berlebach?

I'd agree with Emmanuel, the 'lack' of a post is not a problem in LF. I own a 8033 (leveling head, no center post) and it's perfect for my 4x5 Tachihara.

I added a pano head on mine, so if I was...

River Loire during last winter's very cold episode. The river almost froze and there were ice "pancakes" for more than a week. It was a great opportunity to re-ignite my LF landscape photography !

I'm using it and quite happy, but it's easier with a quick release (which I did use) or a pan "head" (which I now use, very simple device from Manfrotto, which allows only rotation of the camera).
