I have some of my dry mounted prints done at school in 1969 and 70. They are exactly in the same condition as the day I made them. That nonsense about not dry mounting prints has been foisted on...
Ansel Adams (and Fred Picker) promoted the use of the SEI Photometer. Some thoughts:
99% of the meters in today’s universe don’t work because of what has been already said.
When they do work...
1200mm on 8x10 is very good. BUT, you’ll never be able to tell unless it’s a windless day AND you have a beast of a tripod. The tripod head has to be a beast as well. I use an old Gitzo (with the...
Today on APOD they feature the moon taken with wet plate

just showing a lot of different stuff
@thejohnjarosz
I was told (but I have no source to cite) that a one stop difference is achieved by halving (or doubling) the area of the aperture. Of course, this means you must have some known aperture to start...
I've had good luck using darkslides as the starting material.
Thanks guys. Very insightful
John
Just found out today that Ilex made 2 versions of this lens, a F4.5 and a F6.3. Mine is the F6.3.
Performance wise, is there much of a difference between the 2 versions? Not a big deal to me,...
You might try the Vermont Center for Photography

2 issues:
They've suspended operations temporarily because of the Coronavirus.
I don't see an 8x10...
Steven,
If a description of American Brass discusses ingredients, it might be here:

While I have not seen that webpage before today, his design is very similar to that vacuum frame I built. His design is a good one. The vacuum pump does not have to be large, this one should work...
Darkroom space, sink sizes/space and a suitable lightsource (and space for the lightsource)are extremely important, especially if to get into alternate processes.
Print mounting via dry mount...
Two glass negs from the WWI period. My buddy's grandfather served. The one of the guy driving the truck is his grandfather. The plates were left out in an open box since the '30's Really bad...
8x10 neg taken in November 2015. In early December I drove by it to discover it was a flat pile of rubble, nothing left standing.
Turned out it was a reject negative, so I couldn't re-shoot it.

Well, maybe not every day but I try to.
I had my first public exhibition of my prints at Darkroom Aids. The upstairs gallery was a beautiful setting among the curved wooden roof trusses. Doing the show was a lot of work but I learned a lot...
If you go to the Art Institute of Chicago to see photography take a flashlight. The lighting is so low that it's hard to appreciate fine prints.
I have long advocated that if their photographs are...
If you decide to go, I'll recommend that you plan an overnight stay. The morning and evening light with the mountains and lake are terrific. But it's worth the trip even if you don't stay...
I've only done Hallstatt by car. There is a way to do it by train, the link for how-to info is below:
https://www.traveltyrol.com/salzburg-to-hallstatt/
If you rent a car, go to Hallstadt, about an hour's drive from Salzburg. You are in serious trouble if you can't find a photograph there.

Taken from US Highway 30 bridge just north of the tracks. Hasselblad Superwide.
They are fine lenses. However, they are not for use with rickety cameras, dinky little tripods or windy days.
Two tripods help - a lot. If it takes you less than a half hour to setup the...
There is enough room for Waterhouse stop between the cells.
The darkslide shutter goes over the front element. The attached photo shows an identical application with a different lens and 4x5...
I've been using this 305mm Metrogon since 2010 on my 8x20. It weighs 6# without the red/yellow graduated center filter(s). I haven't seen a 305mm offered for sale in many years. The 75mm and 150mm...
Haleakala is a crapshoot. No clouds and it an ethereal occasion. Heavy clouds and it's meh. Been there 3x and only got the no clouds view once.
Hmmm
I mis-interpreted the error message when I tried to enter 508mm for the 20" film width. Actually, 500mm is fine as it more closely represents the film size without the rebate generated by...
Thanks very much.
Have a great holiday.
John
Adam,
I just purchased your app and it looks good.
My primary usage would be with my 8x20 using a 1200mm lens. I see you've increased the acceptable lens focal lengths. Could you do the same...
I've been using for 8x20
305mm Agfa Gevaert Super Intergon with a Packard shutter. (Covers but has fall-off in the corners) I really don't use this lens for taking, it's my 8x10 enlarging lens. I...
Steve,
What mount tissue do you use for the multiple passes on oversize prints?
Thanks
John
+1 to all of this.
In fairness to saying that 95% of ULF sit unused at home; these days ULF film (and even chemistry) is expensive enough that one must discriminate much more than with regular...
Pick a ULF size format that uses existing x-ray film sizes so you can pratice with the x-ray stuff.
Once you go past 11x14 analyze your darkroom to see if your sinks and trays will fit.

May look excessive but I have different lenses for 8x10 and 8x20. That's what pickup trucks are for.

Ha! I made a special trip to Big Bend for photography and Astronomy in late March a couple of years ago. We were there for 4 days. Clouded over day and night. No sun, no stars. So don't assume the...
Thanks,
But for me right now a discarded Compur shutter is much more rare in my junk drawer. :D
Thanks!
