Thanks lads for the feedback. I'll pass it onto him. My worry now is that he'll stumble on this thread when googling 'graflex selenoid polarity'. If you're reading this Eoin I think you're a...
I should mention that these electronic shutter releases are usually used on Crown Speed Graphic press cameras. I'm sure it would all make sense it I was using it with this configuration.
I have an electronic engineer friend of mine in the final stages of building a laser-beam shutter release mechanism for my Deardorf 8x10. He's on the home stretch but has no idea about the polarity...

Critiques very welcome
I do have a repeatable motion that I can test with digital in advance of the event I want to capture using a sheet of 8x10. The issue I'll have is that I need to trigger the digital camera as well as...
Thats pretty impressive!
Will I be the first to do 8x10 action photography since Muybridge? I doubt it. I am amazed there was optics and chemistry available to make film sensitive enough to shoot at these speeds all the way...
Here's a link to a youtube video of the laser tripper I was thinking about.

It may work but if I sent my subject home after 30 minutes of fiddling with mousetraps and pulleys I'm not sure if I'd get him/her back again. I'd prefer to fail and have a mysterious engineering...
I'm making progress. I entered a bid on ebay for a Graflex selanoid. It's only a few dollars. I'm looking into a laser trip and it seems they have one for players of Airsoft (it's like paintball)...
Bettersense, you are correct on the breakbeam tripper and thanks for the tip. I'll stay clear of the security products. Thanks!
BradS...I did a bit of poking around on the Graflex shutter...
I've an unusual project. I want to take shots of moving subjects on my Deardorff 8x10 with my Schneider Symmar-S lens wide open at 5.6!
Needless to say it's completely impossible to get the...
I have a Deardorff 8x10 and I usually shoot wide open on a 240mm f5.6 Schneider lens. One issue I have is getting sharp focus. My ground glass (I'm not sure if it's original) has a rather rough grain...

Deardorff 8x10 Schneider 240mm @ f5.6, Kodak Portra 400. 200th/sec with 4 stop ND filter. Abandoned petrol station about an hour north of Fez, Morocco. I've had this done in 1.5 meters x 1.2 on Lamda...
This is really the first LF image that I'm able to have some pride in...Mainly because of the soft colors and tonal range. I would have liked to stop down but the wind was introducing a bit of shake...
Just an update to let you know that the shutter mysteriously fixed itself and now works in T mode. I suppose there is still half a chance that it will revert to being broken again

I discovered the work of Alfred T Palmer while in first year of my photography degree last year. I should stress the word 'I' as his work was certainly not brought to my attention by any lecturer....
Here's my very first ever large format photograph. Deardorff 8x10, f5.6, 1/30th, Fomapan 100, bath-tub dev in trays. Not very ambitious but it's a start. This is my neighbor who kindly stood in the...
Frank,
I do understand that I need to hit the shutter a second time. It simply doesn't do anything the second time though. Not to worry. I don't understand about future lenses not rendering out of...
I've tried the paperclip to no avail. It seems that when in T mode all the shutter release lever of cable does is engage the preview lever. It's a one way thing though. When it's open it stays open....
I'm not using the lock function on the cable release.
I tried that before (and just now again). On the 'T' setting when I use the cable release the shutter opens and stays open but the second click of the cable release does nothing. I've tried all the...
Firstly, let me admit I'm a complete newbie to LF. My Schneider Symmar-S 240 shutter had arrived from the chap I bought it off on Ebay. The Deardorff 8x10 got stuck in Irish customs because they have...

When you're not expecting to see a photograph of yourself and you are then confronted by your own face it's quite a surprise! Many thanks to Joseph for lending me his time and expertise in showing me...
