Re: Is it possible to magnetize a shutter?

I agree with Bob. Buy the front standard from a Crown or Speed Graphic or a junk body and make an adapter board.

Re: Problem w/47mm Super Angulon XL

The only SAXL I'm aware of that has a removable rear ring is the 90mm. I know it seems incredulous that something like this could happen but perhaps the seller accidentally swapped his 47mm and 90mm...

Me too, Stone... but that's not when I sell unless I'm in a terrible hurt for money. Fortunately, my terrible, painful hurt for money is probably over with. Most of us don't have family we adult men...

Re: Graphic View Ground Glass Dimensions

I wouldn't return the camera because it'll cost half its value to ship it back. If you buy another graphic view, you'd be better off keeping this one for spare parts.
  18. Re: How buyers determine your Reserve amount on Ebay

The used photo market is unpredictable. Just because something doesn't meet a reserve or sell the very first listing, it doesn't mean the item isn't worth the reserve or asking price. It only means...

Re: Foam floor pads for darkroom comfort

Stone is right. Those foam pads absorb chemicals no matter hard you try to keep them clean. I'd at least wear sandals... and trade those out occasionally too.

    Re: What is "microcontrast"?

Lenses, type of film, type of developer, how film is developed and many other factors all play a part but, IMO, the biggest players are subject and lighting. Some will say this is a completely...
  22. Re: How buyers determine your Reserve amount on Ebay

Alan, I take that a step further. I almost never auction anything. I list with fixed prices... sometimes with "Make Offer" option but those have set automatic limits. On the very rare occasion I...
  23. Re: How buyers determine your Reserve amount on Ebay

Reserve prices don't bother me. I always bid the last few seconds anyway. If my bid doesn't meet the reserve price then I don't win the auction.
  24. Re: How buyers determine your Reserve amount on Ebay

That may or may not be the case but it doesn't matter anyway. Ebay automatically bids incrementally for buyers so even if one buyer bids US$10K and the next highest bid is US$500 the higher bidder...

    Re: First LF Lens Advice

Not trying to disagree with others who seem to be discouraging use of a 90mm lens but, honestly, 90mm is not so wide that it ever caused me any problems at all. And if you like 24mm on FF DSLR and...

    Re: First LF Lens Advice

I agree with Corran and Luis. If you prefer 24mm on FF DSLR and 55mm on 6x7cm then 90mm is about the same perspective on 4x5in.

    Re: First LF Lens Advice

For $500 you should be able to find a nice 150mm and another focal length 210mm or 90mm... maybe all three if you're frugal and patient and are willing to accept a little cosmetic imperfection.

  37. Re: Supply source for an enlarging lens retaining ring?
