    Re: Video: Testing Old Polaroid Type 55

    Hi Joelio - can you explain the technique you suggest in a bit more detail? Do you use a roller (such as a brayer) with the packet lying on a bench? I was thinking of that or also of using a stiff...

    David, well done.
  4. Re: How many holders do you carry (landscapes from near the car on a nice day)?

    I always carry slightly less than I think I might use. This keeps me from being careless, keeps my eye-brain critical.

    I only use yellow-green and polarizer. 4x5.

    I don't care if I miss the...

    Re: Wista 45vx or Chamonix 045n-2

    I have had both the Toyo 45A (used for over 30 years) and a Chamonix 45N-2, purchased recently.

    Chamonix:

    * Light (very) and compact
    * More movements than a field camera
    * Compatibility...

    That wasn't a negative opinion about sharpness. My response was not to the OP, but to the post I quoted. I like my lenses sharp as anyone. The OP provided no context to his question(s) so it...

    Not LF, but if it had been LF I would have shot it the same way. Sharpness isn't always everything, or even important.

    Ken -- very interesting. The first sample (on the left) stands out to me. It's significant, but not overwhelming.

    Re: Ball head for light weight 4x5?

    I use an Acratech GP, on a Velbon E630, but the load is a Chamonix 45N-2 with Fujinon 150 or 90, which is lighter than your kit. However, the Acratech is so solid and tight I have no doubt it would...

  16. Re: Was there a sign for you that you weren't (or were) a LF photographer?

    I'm not sure exactly when it was, tho likely it was early/mid '80s. It's really strange, but many (if not most) of the LF/4X5 exposures just feel right. Not that the 35mm are all crap, but the...

    Re: What is the killer scanner for everything?

    My serious printing will be optical/darkroom still. Yes, it's overkill for web, but there are still valid reasons for getting a 750 even for web and inkjet printing. The primary reason for the 750...

    Re: Post your first (LF) shot

    My first was in the mid '80s. Before I purchased a Toyo 45A (now sold in favour of a Chamonix,) I briefly used a Bender 4x5 that I built from kit, of course. I can't remember the lens for this shot.

    Oh, this is good info. I have one unopened box of Type 55 in the film fridge. While I hope the pods are not crystallized, if they are I think I will try Rodinal 1:100 @ ~ 20 minutes.

    Re: Chamonix 4x5" N-2 camera resell value.

    I think the light weight of the Chamonix will help it retain a higher percentage of value than many other LF cameras. So if weight is top concern, I would go that way. I just ordered one myself,...
