Hi Sal,
Thanks for the recommendation.
Looking at more of the "options" available, the Technika 5X7 is looking like the best option to me.
Not because of "snobbery" or sex appeal(although it is a...
Hey Gudmundur,
that's a good suggestion, I tried sending you a message, but it says your messages are all full

Hey everyone,
thanks for the help on this. I'm still up a creek about which one to choose, as they're both nice cameras. Either can be potentially purchased used(I'm actually in talks with a guy in...
Hi Les,
I plan on cutting down 8x10 film for the interim, until I've saved enough to put in an order(or participate in a s.o.) for fresh Kodak Ektar in 5x7.
-Dan
Thx Steve for the recommendation.
I have all of my lenses on Technika boards, and don't feel like moving them to new ones again. I actually have a leftover Toyo /canham 110x110->technika adapter,...
To me that last posted image(full negative) looks TO ME, like a light leak in your bellows. See the 'shadow' on the left side of the frame? Like a line of something was keeping light from a portion,...
so am I correct in reading(or mis-reading?), the Canham 5x7(metal or wood) is BASE TILTS ONLY, FRONT & rear?
please confirm
thanks,
Dan
Hey all,
I'm stepping down(or stepping up, let's call it meeting in "the middle" :)) to using 5x7 as my primary LF format from now on, from using 4x5 and 8x10. I shoot color film primarily, this has...
The first one looks like the density is originating from the middle point, see how the streaking goes both ways? You mentioned rotary development, hence my consideration of this since it originates...
My vote is for unclean water, are you on city/off the street supply or from a well? Either way, I'd recommend that you filter your water before mixing up chems. Even running it through a brita filter...
same here, Leigh's an upstanding guy with uber-accurate descriptions(well that's been my experience over a few transactions)
thx Leigh!

I like Pyrocat HD, especially if the intention of the negatives is to print onto Lodima. Some say that regular D-76(my "normal" developer for rollfilm negatives, 1+1) is "fine". I'm not ok with...
I'm assuming that this is a "straight" print, no burning or dodging at all?
A few years ago, when enlarging primarily MF negatives, I did the same thing. Base(1st) exposure at say G2.5, then burning...
try Chamonix

definitely NOT "cheap", but having owned a few of their 5x8 holders in the past, they're the most beautiful & well made holders I've...
I'm guessing that "FJ" is referring to an FJ cruiser, from Toyota

nicely done Jim :)
Welcome Douglas!
Please post some of your paper negative contact prints. Its always nice to have more "locals" here in LA.
cheers,
Dan
use a clear piece of plexi w/ a sharpie'd line on it where your gradation point starts on the filter.
make it thick(like 1/4-3/8) so it visibly(through the lens, on the g/g) blocks light.

I'll bet Google can come out with something better, and cheaper ;)
look at what they did with Nik software. Bought the company, then "bundled" the software all together for the (prior) cost of [1]...
or is he considering selling "display rights" instead of a traditional print?
It might be a hellish nightmare trying to make sure these screens are all properly calibrated for density and color...
I don't really "follow" the current tech, despite being 25 and having grown up with it ;)
However, FOR ME; I personally prefer to hold a print in my hands, or see a print on a wall.
If you want to...
There are lots of configurations/packages one can create. LOTS of different options for different lenses/shutters as well.
If you're using the Sinar DB system w/ db-mounted lenses, that can be a...
Well I strongly believe in "turning the other cheek"...
I can forgive and move on, its not like my life has been THAT impacted in the long run.
However, I utterly refuse to "bend over" if someone...
If you don't need much movements, a crown graphic can be a great camera.
They can take a LOT of abuse, and will keep ticking :)
The Shen-Hao is a nice camera, as well as the Chamonix 4x5. Both are...

hey all,
Late last month(march) I purchased(or so I thought I did), a ThinkTank roller bag from "austintc" over on APUG.
sale:...
and someone got a really good deal :)
Personally, I'd opt for a 400mb sized scan if you can afford it.
Having a larger file will allow you to ”down-res”, if needed. ”Up-res'ing”” generally is not recommended.
Most labs I've come across...
Sorry, I know this is OT, and I know "deals" can be found anywhere(heck, I occasionally shop at Goodwill locally), but if you plan to GIVE anything to a "Charity", check out this article so you're...
You can use a Job 3010 drum. It's designed to process (10) 4x5 negatives, but can also work well to process (5) 5x8 negatives instead.
They are on the used market regularly for $300-$500 depending...
Personally,
I wouldn't worry about 0.1mm ;)
Just use the 0.6 material, it'll help cut down the weight a bit too. And since you've stated you'll probably just be using this/these holder(s) "in...
Here's what an average of 3 slides(3 separate holders) all read(Fidelity plastic-tabbed slides), each measurement is an average of 3 separate slides, 3 points length-wise along each dimension:

have you priced out a DIY wooden frame w/ lumber from Home Depot? Pretty inexpensive compared to MSE or American Grip.
Its a 2hr job if you have the space, time + tools.
* Or shorter than...
If you're on a budget, 2x3's can make a nice frame with a california-king white cotton bed sheet as a background material.
Using lag-bolts and winged washers can make setup quick, and not to...
shoot a few "warm-up" pictures first before things get serious, that way you have some "extras" that might work well :)
experimentation is the key to developing according to what YOUR style/need...
what about just buying all the necessary "parts", and having a cabinet maker make the frames :)?
might be faster that way :D
-Dan
Both are nice fl's. You just have to decide if you prefer ~450mm or ~480mm ;)!
I've owned a few artars over the past few years, and they're damn fine lenses!
I think you'll be fine with either,...
Leigh,
Perspex is hard acrylic plastic, usually in sheet transparent(sometimes tinted various colors) form:
