OK let's lighten up now. I've nailed my colours to the mast and said that I think Steve's post was OK this time round. Steve is smart enough to take the earlier hint that repetitive announcements...
I can't imagine anyone seriously objecting to Steve's post. It struck me as a perfectly reasonable pointer to a free event that must be of huge interest to many of this forum's readers. "View...
I have considerable sympathy with Tom's position. The forum would not be here in it's present form had it not been for his hard and unpaid work.
The workshops page is the place for announcements...
Robert White have a demo model of the non-folding Shen Hao.
You have hit the nail on the head Tuan.
It doesn't have to be that way, of course. We could all recce all of our locations prior to carrying a camera there. We could check the sunrise time and...
I wholeheartedly agree with Neil's point of view on this one, and I believe that it is thoroughly in keeping with the ethos of this forum, so skillfully nurtured by Tuan.
It has to be said that...
Well top marks to Calumet US. The stickers arrived here in Tintern, South Wales, yesterday, two days after ordering them online, with only a $5 post and packing charge.
Well I'm impressed with Calumet US - they just emailed me to say free postage and it's already in the mail. If USPS are as fast as the cycle team they sponsor, it should be here very soon!
Thanks all - the Calumet UK site doesn't list them and I drawn a blank on a number of searches. I've ordered from Calumet US, so fingers crossed they'll get here.
I have been after a zone system sticker for my Pentax digital spotmeter for a while now but have yet to find one. I know I could make one but want something that looks professional!
I am aware...
Being pedantic, the wedge (or more accurately, the wedge-like volume) emenates from the hinge line, not the Scheimpflug line.
The hinge line, as Merklinger demonstrates, is located along a line...
Take a look here Dave:

On behalf of Andrew O'Neill..
Can you get Xtol? I lived in Japan for years and couldn't get it so I always had to order from Canada. I find that Xtol gives more punch to shadows than most...
ID-11 1+1, with the film rated at ISO 100. Gives an element of grit and drama, which I like.
Ernest - Your explanation has the benefit of simplicity, but it is not complete as there is another variable - the lens-film distance.
As Merklinger explains, the Scheimplflug principle...
I could just hear your scream from here - there's no mistaking the howl of a man watchiung his kit descend to a watery grave. Glad you pretty much got away with it!
Rob in the UK
I'm ceratinly not saying that Brian - if the thread is felt to be useful it will certainly stay! My own feeling was that the subject is too computing-specific given the forum guidelines but I...
To answer Don's point, my feeling is that this thread will be useful to enough people here to justify letting it run. It may be best to delete it after a while though as I don't think that it needs...
Easily - yes. The thread below about LF maths in the field contains a number of useful links to information about the theory behing using tilts and swings.
For a 150mm lens, suspended on a tripod...
And a Sinar P2 is such a burden to backpack.. :-)
One of the great leaps of understanding I made after reading "Focussing the View Camera" is that you can treat a view camera like a conventional camera and use hyperfocal focussing, or you can use...
Don - one of the best investments you can make at this stage is a polaroid back (545 backs come up regularly on ebay) and get some type 54 instant black and white film. You can see instantly what is...
I'm not sure if the catch in the 545 pro is any better than in the i, but it does have an indicator on the LCD display (a little tick icon) that confirms that the film is properly engaged in the...
Alex H: You have hit the nail on the head with your comment on maths - the human eye is a very accurate instrument if used properly and we judge photographs with our eyes, not our calculators. It...
I would question the determination of lens-film distance by setting the rear standard in between it's postion for near- and far-point focus if you are doing this after a tilt or swing has been...
The only maths I tend to do in the field is Harold Merklinger's simplified hinge rule fudge equation to calculate tilt or swing - alpha=f/5J - where alpha is the tilt angle required, f is the focal...
I'll get to it! :-)
We've been making efforts to introduce civility to the PN forum but it's been like treading on eggshells with the freedom of speech proponents in one corner and the valued...
Congratulations Tuan - and jolly well done to Bjorn for his hard work too!
