Re: scanning various types of film

I agree with all of the previous observations on negative vs. transparency for scanning. I use Kodak Portra 160VC normally but have also used Fuji 160PS with little difference in final result. I...

    Re: Hello from Sydney, Australia

Yes, I process my own C-41 at home. I buy the individual (dry where possible) chemicals from Canada and mix up my own processing solutions. Overall developing cost is less than UA$0.50 per 5x4 sheet....

    Re: Hello from Sydney, Australia

I used to use Bond imaging when I first started 5x4 Neg. I became disenchanted and started developing my own after a while. (Always dust and fibres, occasional uneven development).

Re: Photograph your JOBO motor for me please?

I think that part of the problem with Jobo motors is the abrupt way they change direction. the abrupt change also places strain on other parts of the setup. i have toyed with the idea of using a...

While discussing development of C41 color on APUG, I had occasion to bemoan the fact that - for color negative scanning, scanners and their software (in my experience) do not behave like enlargers....

  12. Re: Who drills metal lens boards on the cheap?

You need a trepanning tool. This is a cutting bit on the end of a short arm which fastens into a post which in turn locks into the chuck of any small drill press. You DO need a press as the drill...

    Re: JOBO CPE-2 / CPA-2 / CPP-2

I use a Jobo CPE-2 for developing C-41 5x4 and find it OK for that but the motor is not powerful enough to drive drums large enough to take more than one of the 2509 reels, so you are limited with...

    Re: Moving Water

Well, I've done a few. I tried to post others but I'd have to make them too small and too low-quality to bother. BTW these were all a single long exposure.

    Re: Moving Water

I have heard that one can achieve various effects by using multiple exposures but on thinking about it there would be some intricate arithmentic involved.

Re: Cross Posting on APUG & LFPF

    And about that amalgamation idea.
I am under the impression that the vast majority of UPUG members shoot formats other than LF.
I think that most LF shooters would treat this forum as their main...
  17. Re: New utility by Jeff Conrad: Sun/Moon calculator

Stop spouting and think for a minute. Melbourne is at 34° South latitude. There is NO time of the year at which the sun rises or sets south of East or West.
  18. Re: New utility by Jeff Conrad: Sun/Moon calculator

    Great calculator.
However, I think you need to correct azimuth calculations for the southern hemisphere. Sunrise and sunset positions for Melbourne, Australia calculate to 120° and 240° which puts...

Re: Why do the Brits say 10x8 and 5x4?

It is a convention when specifying material sizes in the engineering and construction industries, to quote the dimesions in sorted order, largest dimension first and (eg. a piece of wood 32x3x2)....

Re: Avery labels on darkslides...What the???

  24. Re: Let's Vote!!! Only one wide lens, 75 or 90?

    I use 90, 135 and 210mm lenses. The mathematically inclined will see that there is a reasonably close relationship in the gaps between the focal length ie. 135 = 90 x 1.5, 210 = 135 x 1.55....

    Re: How many sheets?

You can get a Polaroid film which produces an instant B&W negative as well as a print from the same shot. The Neg is a fairly good fine-grain jobbie.
I would think that you would want to buy your...

  29. Re: Which 4x5 lens is truly normal? I don't think 150mm is!

That's true, but if taken litrally, then the 'normal' lens for 35mm would be about 38mm. I figure that a lens for 5x4 having the same 'viewing angle' as a 55mm lens in 35mm format would be about...
