I think it reduces the tendency to warp or change dimensions with changes in temperature or humidity??

On side note my Dad made me an 8x10 back for an old camera (decades ago), he used thin slats...

I had 3 or 4 of the 5x7s over the years. Really a great enlarger. Two separate moves pushed me to divest. It's OK I have plenty of enlargers.

Very industrial beasties. Quite quintessential American metal. I believe like the Calumet 4x5 this was originally an Eastman Master camera.

Beseler went to a very dense (like particle board) with a laminate cover. I would find some really nice 3/4 " plywood and double it up. Unless you're willing to do some cabinetry, solid wood can warp...

There's parts for most of the classic brass thermostatic mixing valves still available. It's just getting the right person who can help find the right parts.

Re: Just some thoughts, and a thank you.

5x7 contact prints are wonderful too. Cropped to 3 1/2 × 5 1/2 postcard sized is sublime. Many of our historical photos came from photo postcard contact prints.:o
  17. Re: lens caps for Schneider-Kreuznach Symmar-S, 300mm & 360 lenses

Measure the outside diameter of the lens and look for "slip-on" lens caps. New from B&H, used at KEH or ebay.

Right now I'm using quite a bit of Fomatone, but I use Ilford papers too. I need to get in more darkroom time. Toning Fomatone is tricky as it can be quite dramatic.
