A short historical note.

I made my own out of a bit of a sticky label cut to shape, it took 2 minutes as I remember.
Charlie.
As an aside, I remember a joke in New Scientist where someone in conversation dropped in " Everything I know about semi-permeable membranes, I picked up by a form of osmosis".
Cheers
Charlie.
Y0u could try Bergger film, a great merit for a beginner is that it is almost impossible to overdevelop if your doing your own. You will learn a lot from your initial exposures and arguably whatever...
Glue is funny stuff, it works in two ways.
1. As a strong filler, if the crack is open and cannot be closed, you need a filling adhesive of the epoxy or similar type. The principle is that you...
Anyone know of LF processing / darkroom facilities in the Inverness area, I'm getting a group together in May on the Black Isle ostensibly to gather images for alt. printing, whilst we could bring...
I have and use a full plate camera. Maco make film for it, available in the UK from Mr. Cad. It's a really nice size to use and my Camera is much smaller and lighter than my 10x8 too!
With the...
Thanks for that, I was only looking to use it as an interim measure until I can find a suitable lens, I will stick with the 210 Symmar that I have which just fails to cover 10x8 but will do for...
As a taking lens. Oops!
I have just acquired a 10x8, anyone know if a 240 rodagon will cover the format?
Re: Ansel Adams and primitive conditions. I visited the Ansel Adams at 100 exhibition several times when it was in London looking at the images in different ways. One visit I was looking at print...
Slightly off thread but sort of relevant.
I spent last week in the western islands of Scotland, we visited Islay and at last did a distillery tour. The lad at Bruichladdich told a good story re:...
Buy a cheap one and play with / use it until you decide what you do and don't need. When you do upgrade, you then have a spare machine that does not owe you much, always handy for rougher shoots /...
An excellent erudite thread about the tension between art and representation.
For the past 4 years I have exhibited my straightforward, old fashioned, nothing fancy, landscapes at a town wide...
Re: No real mountains as people understand them.
We do have real mountains, they are just not very high. The Cuillins in Skye have impressed many a seasoned alpinist, and the Mountains of...
Re 2-4 second exposures. I find it best to avoid these by going down a stop and doubling the time + a bit for reciprocity.
Thanks for the ideas. I'll get to the local fabric shop.
Cheers
Charlie.
Does anyone know where yone can get the felt used for darkslide light traps? I'm in the UK but could import if necessary.
Cheers
Charlie.
I have one of these, I put some Copper Sulphate in and have had no Algae problems, I just top up with water occasionally, the Copper won't wear out and I can't see that it will effect the heating...
You have to be careful using Golf bags for 'other purposes'. I play in a band and we transport our microphone stands in such a bag. We were playing a wedding in a golf club; bringing the gear in, the...
Has anyone experienced static discharges with this film? On a recent trip to Scotland, every negative shot had extensive damage from static. I have never had a problem with this before but this was...
I use a combi tank, 2 things may help. Use a bigger funnel than the one supplied. I use dilute development, with dev. times of typically 20 mins + an uncertainty of 30 sec becomes marginal.

The cheapest way to convert to 110V is to use a building site transformer. 110 V is standard on all UK Building sites, any plant hire shop will have 3 Kw ( or larger ) units, you should be able to...
I played this game with my enlarger a couple of years back. Having noticed that the edges were out of focus under the grain magnifier, I started adjusting things and found that I could not get sharp...
I also have no nails ( well, only heavily bitten ones) I use Aaron's technique with a small modification, I find that a tap on the top of the darkslide gets the film started. Unloading with the film...
Whilst I live in England, I had the pleasure of a couple of weeks in Texas a couple of years back. I was staying in Austin and the Austin Photo lab did a 1 hour service on my Tmax 5X4 negs and did...
I use a combiplan, I always invert. With regard to the slow filling time, I use dilute development, with a development time up to 30 mins so 30 secs filling time becomes less significant....
Re: 'I hate packing all that LF gear'.
There's an answer to that, never unpack it. I leave the working set in it's rucksac. All I have to do is pick it up. Charlie Skelton
Neil, I have an ancient Devere 101 (full plate) with a cold cathode head, I generally switch the beast on and leave it on using the swing across red filter for exposure ( tested this for fog and...
The chap I bought my tank from advised a larger funnel for quicker filling. I always use dilute development (20-30 mins) however which largely renders the point moot. I have had problems with marks...
I asked this question of a local camera salesman in conversation, his answer 'Traditional photography could become the artform it always threatened to be'!
Martti, Regarding the 75mm SA, I have one of these of about the same vintage as yours. It's a great performer and does give fair movements on 4x5 covering about 200mm. Cheers Charlie
Does any one know where I can get hold of a few full plate sheet film ( not glas s plate) holders?
Charlie
I have recently aquired a wista DX, previously I used an MPP, this was very fast to set up. I used a 120 angulon and a 180 boyer, both take the same size filters, the camera closes with either lens...
I have recently acquired the above lens. It seems to be a wide angle as the elem ents are almost semi circular in section ( it looks like an oversized hypergon!) rough tests indicate a coverage of ...
I use a Beryl 180 as my main lens on my 5*4, it's a superb small lens with great coverage( 10x8 just I think). The elements are glued together with gelatin, this had seperated on mine and the lens...
