  1. Re: Hi.. I am looking for a good portrait lens for my 4*5. Inexspensive please (210mm

Look for a 210/5.6 convertible Schneider Symmar. Cheap is relative but I paid $100 for mine on ebay. It has oodles of coverage, tack sharp, gives a nice bright image on the ground glass.

    Plus it...

You can say that again. By going digital at our hospital we save 10's of thousands a dollars a year on film and processing chemicals. A lot of the procedures are digital anyway (CT, MRI, nuc med)...

    Re: International shipping - film

I have bought film from J&C, B&H and some outdated colour 4x5 from Helix in Chicago. No problems at all. Just the usual drill - PST+GST+brokerage fee.

Re: Newbie - Omega D3 outfit?

Thanks for the links. Here is what the $200 kit seems to have:

    Omega D3 enlarger

VC head, old style with pull chain
    Condenser head with lenses
    VHE Vivitars (2.8/50mm and 5.6/80mm) -...

    Newbie - Omega D3 outfit?

I've been offered an extensive Omega D3 outfit for $200 incl. a selection of 13 different-sized carriers, 3 lenses, 3 heads, etc. I think its a pretty good deal.

I'm a complete newbie here when...
  6. Re: Crown Graphic Restoration - anyone to wood?

I'll have to keep that in mind although I'm probably far too busy to do this. Work might also wonder where all that machine time is going...
  7. Re: Crown Graphic Restoration - anyone to wood?

I'll keep the group posted when I have some time to work on the project.

There is another nice benefit to the CNC mill as well - its not too much more work to churn out copies if I mill some new...
  8. Re: Crown Graphic Restoration - anyone to wood?

Not so concerned about resale since I intend to keep it. The movement modifications are tempting too. I have a very easy to program (windows interface) CNC mill at work.

    With 2-3 weeks of...
  9. Re: Crown Graphic Restoration - anyone to wood?

Doesn't look so good to me. I think a stain and varnish or perhaps a veneer would go a long way for that camera.

There is a nice restoration I found HERE.
  10. Re: Crown Graphic Restoration - anyone to wood?

I have seen this too - but I cannot relocate it for the life of me! (anyone have it bookmarked?)
  11. Crown Graphic Restoration - anyone to wood?

Has anyone here taken a post anniversary Graphic down to its wood? These were made of mahogany are they not?

I have a battered example here I only paid about $60 for. Leather is in pretty rough...

Re: Focus accuracy - what's acceptable

A 5% focusing error of 6" at 10' translates into a huge focusing error close up.

    90mm Tessars for 4x5?

Distilled water, any use in darkroom?

Distilled water boils at a LOWER temperature than water with solutes present. Basic chemistry :) Its a small effect, e.g. about one degree C for every 60 grams of salt added to distilled water.
