Thank you for such a kind and helpful response. The insight I was seeking was around things not documented. You can only learn so much from MTF charts, etc.

Hi,
Considering moving up to 8x10. What are the superstar lenses for an 8x10 system? (ones that are still readily available, not unobtainable exotics, please). Wide, normal, slightly longer than...
I can also highly recommend http://oldschoolphotolab.com/ They're a great bunch of people to work with, high quality and great prices. Easy mail order too.
I can highly recommend Kim Rieng. He's a certified guide and very familiar with photographers. He's an ex-cop and knows the temples inside and out, especially where to go when to avoid the tourist...
That's an understatement. They're significantly more powerful, plus you risk the chance of someone opening your luggage without you being around to supervise (not to mention stolen) or the boxes...
It's a Darlot, but other than that, that's all the info I have. Not much, I know.
Hi,
Newbie question: How do I figure out the coverage of a lens? The only measurements I have are a diameter of 5.3cm and length of 5.8cm. Someone's trying to sell it to me and I want to make...
Cool, thanks. I had heard about the "being followed" part. I'll be doing strictly landscapes and temples, so I'm sure they'll get bored with me quickly.
Good tips, thanks.
Hi,
I've traveled quite a bit with my gear, but Burma/Myanmar may be a unique experience. I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with hand inspections or flying through there. I can't...
I just returned from that area. My friend and mentor (and fellow LF photographer) Ian Whitehead is based out of Sedona but knows that whole area very well.
You can check out his workshop site to...
Thanks Garrett.
I've read the graflex.org site extensively and there's no mention of using brass lenses, other than saying that the Pacemaker FP shutter is optimal for using them. Hence my...
You might also consider an 8x10 from Richard Ritter. Much lighter than either of the other options and very well made by all accounts (no personal experience though)...
Hi,
I recently picked up a Pacemaker Speed Graphic in part because I wanted the focal plane shutter if I eventually try a brass lens on it (love the look).
I have a couple of questions:
1. ...
That's hard core:

Hi,
It's difficult to find a ton of info on the Shen-Hao PTB45, so here are a couple of questions:
1. What did they do to it to make it lighter than their normal models?
2. How tough is it...
I asked the Impossible Project (via Twitter) whether there are any plans to do an 8x10 or 4x5 version of their new former Polaroid films. Here's their reply:
Bob Crowley's site: ...
The camera looks great, although does anyone else think it's weird that:
a) It's named BH Camera, which may or may not be meant to associate it with B&H photo in NY?
b) The contact e-mail...
It's not a question of money, it's more about the weight. I'm trying to get as light as possible while still offering protection.
How does the Ebony 45SU "travel"? Are there any special precautions that I'd need to take? I know they sell a padded bag for it, but was wondering if a large wrap would suffice instead. I'm trying...
No, I was considering buying one and one of the things I want from LF is to use Petzval type lenses.
Thanks everyone. Yep, I asked a stupid noobie question. I appreciate your indulgence.
Mark
Thank you sir!

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out the differences between the Linhof Master Technika 2000 and 3000. I found the specs on the 3000 but not the 2000 for comparison.
Can anyone (Bob from HP?) explain...
I think the answer to this is no, but I wanted to double check.
Are there any issues in using Petzval type lenses with a Linhof Master Technika 3000? I realize you won't be able to fold it up...
Hi Jim,
This is very educational and begs even more questions, so I appreciate your indulgence.
The thinking behind moving to 11x14 is to do contact prints for platinum/paladium.
The "Swirl"...
Thanks Eddie,
I found this link off of the page you sent:

I'm confused though about the Nikkor 450 M In the "excess coverage" for...
Thanks Vaughan.
Question then: Is there a way to end up with an 11x14 neg for a contact print from a 5x7 cam without doing digital at all? An interneg or something?
(as you can see, I have...
Thanks Jim,
Not sure I'll go as far as attempting to build my own, but am looking at both the Ritter ones and Chamonix.
I just posted a question about 11x14 lenses in the Lens Forum, so any...
Hi,
I'm considering an 11x14 camera, but it's tough to find recommendations on lenses that would cover it.
I've heard about the 450 F9 NIKKOR-M being a good choice for a "normal" lens, plus it...
This is all great info - thank you all so much.
Jim, it's very encouraging that apartment work is possible!

Hi,
I'm curious about 11x14 cameras, especially since I'd lke to get into alt-process contact printing. I really want to keep things completely non-digital and that seems to be the largest size...
Hi Scott,
I found this tutorial very helpful as well

Nope, I just read that in the book I mentioned - Mr. Thornton was very "in depth" about sharpness. He used it as his signature style, really. I was just trying to see what the real world experience...
Thanks guys!
Hi,
Is there any one brand/type of 4x5 film holder that holds the film more perfectly flat than others?
I was reading Barry Thornton's Edge of Darkness, which prompted this question. It makes...
Is the back/ground glass on the 45n-2 able to be rotated for vertical shots?
Thanks,
Mark
FYI: I sent a mail to Hugo Zhang yesterday asking about 45n-2 availability. Here's what he wrote back:
Just thought I'd pass that along in case anyone else was considering ordering.
This sounds great!
