  1. Re: Recommended source for bellows and installation on a Century Studio portait came

If you go through the Ansco/Agfa catalogs on the cameraexcentrics (sp?) site, you'll notice that they charged a whole lot more than just 20% premium for gray paint. The company execs probably laughed...

    Re: Lugging a 8x10 Kodak 2D around

For shorter distances I use an old "portable computer" bag for my D2 and a canvas bag (military?) for my Century Universal. The bag for the D2 has dividers and even an outside compartment. I can fit...

Re: Help - shutter blade repair

Thanks everyone. I'll send Carol a message. What happened to my shutter was that a few blades somehow got unaligned and literally smashed each other to pieces. I'll try the spring steel route; but am...

    Help - shutter blade repair

During an act of unspeakable stupidity on my part, I managed to accidentally break a couple of shutter blades of an old Multi Speed Shutter. Looks like the original blades were made of thin (and...

Re: Does anyone recognize this tripod head?

I knew it looked familiar, it IS the railclamp of a Kardan Master TL (should have known all along, because I got one ... will double check later tonight).

Re: Does anyone recognize this tripod head?

Looks like the bottom rail clamp of a Linhof Kardan (GT?).
  7. Re: Does anyone knows something about this large field camera?

Took a while; but here they are - a couple of pics showing the crank.
Alex - you owe me big time ... making me dig through 20+ boxes in storage to find the camera in question ;)
  8. Re: Does anyone knows something about this large field camera?

Alex, I'll try to dig mine out next week and do some pics (it's packed away in the "project" storage stack, and I'll have to finish an important deadline first). The crank is basically a small...

Re: My Lack of Knowledge in Wet Plate

Almost everyone is still using the old forum (it's a busy place), or as Mark Twain would say:"The reports of its death are greatly exaggerated" .
  10. Re: Does anyone knows something about this large field camera?

    Hi Andrew,
Close, but not close enough, sorry. Lancaster made a myriad of different looking models experimenting with weird hardware and equally wacky names to match. The camera in your link is yet...
  11. Re: Does anyone knows something about this large field camera?

It's a Lancaster, missing the crank for extending the bed. I have one in whole plate; but mine is currently sans bellows.
  12. Re: What tools do I need to make a metal lens board?

Harold's method works well ... I've used it for a number of unrelated projects; but be warned, it's a slow process (compared to using power tools) and the hand filing will get you to look like Popeye...
  13. Re: Multiple brass lenses on an antique wooden camera...

I use a combination of all of the above. Dedicated lensboards for some lenses, adapter for using smaller boards, and the universal iris's. Lensboards can be made on the cheap with basic woodworking...

    Re: Kodak 2d modification

A few pics of my work horse 2D. I can't complain about the mod, it's functional and works quite well.
  15. Re: What is this huge over 5 foot large format camera ?

The camera looks like a Century Lantern Slide Camera or Folmer duplicating cameras.
  16. Re: How to operate a Zeiss Ikon Adoro Tropen 230/3

To close the camera, you probably have to push the two "diagonal" struts a bit down to release them (the upper end of them is probably spring loaded). The camera should then fold and the open/close...

    Re: Kodak 2d modification

I'll see if I get around during the Holidays to take a few pics of my 2D. It got a pretty decent front standard mod (swing and tilt). Don't know who built it (bought it used); but it's on a pro level...
  18. Re: Indian made Deardorff copies, anybody's got one of them?

Steven, I think the underlying problem is that one has first to know what to search for. That can be a serious issue for anyone new to the field (what exactly am I looking for, where to start,...

    Re: Linhof or Sinar?

Good points. The Linhof was my first LF camera, bought it for college. It feels more solid and rugged than the Sinar, however the Sinar is easier to operate (yaw free, "DoF estimator"). I better have...

    Linhof or Sinar?

I have a bit of a dilemma. My own camera system of many years is a Linhof Bi-Kardan. I haven't used it much lately to be honest (prefer 8x10 wooden cameras for wetplate etc). But now, a good friend...

Re: Can someone help me value this gear?

The kit you're referring to, belongs to a friend of mine. It DOES include bag bellows and extension rail (check the pics in that thread). If the price is good or not, I don't know; but I thought it...
  23. Re: What was this front standard modification used for?

It's definitely a custom job; but it's well integrated (ie not a home made hack). The brass strips are to hold the front standard together (otherwise it would most certainly break in the spot where...
  24. What was this front standard modification used for?

One of my (antique) field cameras has a customized front standard (see pics). It looks like the modification was done by the manufacturer (there are parts missing). Does anyone know what this...

Re: Cheap 11x14 film holders on ebay

I could be wrong, but I see it as a potential weak-spot for light leaks developing. What if the wood starts to work when the holder is subjected to changing temperature/moisture levels (yes, I know,...

Re: Cheap 11x14 film holders on ebay

  29. Re: Where to find info on this old Century 4A studio camera ( made by Graflex )

Re: What do you suggest me to do?

My concerns would be the condition of the bellows and if there are any plate holders that go with the camera. If there aren't any holders, you would need to get some custom made (as in extra...

Re: Large format photography with Nikon D800

way back, in the 70s, some companies offered a kind of mini-viewcamera for 35mm SLRs. The thing was basically a very fancy macro-bellows contraption and looked a lot like the L-standard Horsemans,...
  32. Re: Camera Equipment Co. Tripods - anyone use?

I got one like this. Replaced the narrow top with a square one and cut a few large holes on it to reduce weight (looks now a lot like the swiss-cheese metal Canham's).

Re: Conley 5 x 7 long bellows camera

  39. Re: Help needed for restoration of Ansco Universal View
