Get the Betterscanning holder and ... relax!
Look at Walker cameras too? An alternative to metal and wood.
I use the Walker 5x7 Wide XL camera - the bigger brother of the 4x5 version so the comments I can make are easily likened to the smaller camera!
I cut my LF teeth on Ebony cameras; the SW45, RSW45...
Many thnaks for this! Just bought a used 45DX as a "quickie" camera and the 120mm is one of my fave lenses too :)
Just wondering ... is anyone using a Nikon 120mm f8 lens on a Wista 45 DX? Wondering whether the large rear element will fit through the aperture in front standard?? TIA
Schneider 110mmXL
I'm 99.9% sure that Mike Walker uses acrylic/plexiglass for the screens in his cameras? They are very bright! I am speaking with him this week so I'll double check this fact!
The Schneider 110mmXL will just cover this format - but no movements as such.
Smells like ......... bull"*^t
Probably not! You could always buy the set and then sell the ball head?
I can vouch for the Walker-made cameras having moved to the 5x7 XL Wide after using 5x4 Ebony's for a number of years. They are rock solid and yet surprisingly lightweight. There is absolutley no...
I would stick with either the Canham 6x17 or the Shen hao (5x7) 6x17 - don't go down the route of a reducing back with a Shen Hao (5x4) 6x17 - far too fiddly!
If you choose either the Canham or...
I can't comment on the Shen Hao 6x17 5x7 version - didn't even know it existed :o
However, I have used a number of 6x17 backs on 5x4 camears and having looked at the image the roll film holder...
Hi John
You might want to check out our UK-based forum too - www.lf-photo.org.uk
I stand corrected :o
The Canham film back is sized to fit the larger rear frame of a 5x7 camera - the Day Yi/Shen Hao/Art Panorama film backs are designed to fit the smaller rear frame of a 5x4 back so the only way of...
I found that a recessed panel was more useful with the 47XL on my Ebony 45SU - a flat panel does restrict the movement available; although you won't get much opportunity to employ movements on a...
I used a B+W wide angle (metal) hood (77mm screw thread) on my 110XL with a 67-77mm step-up ring. Worked okay! Now use the Lee Wide Hood - no hassle!
That's what I'm thinking!! I'm using it on 5x7/6x17 so it looks like I'll have to raid the piggy bank!
Hello to all! I wondered if anyone was using a Lee Filter system with a Schneider 110mm XL whilst also using the Centre Filter 3b (uses an 86mm outer filter thread)? I'm not sure whether to purchase...
I have fond memories of my darkroom "teacher" - he would smoke own-rolled ciggies and drop ash into the dev/stop/fix trays! He used Hasselblad gear and would often find himself needing to blow ash...
1. Yes - the bellows are different; the bellows on the 45S are fixed in place whereas the 45SU offers interchangeable bellows. The 45S is designed for wide lenses and the bellows compress a great...
Agfapan APX 25 .... bliss
Not EXACTLY mine but a stock photo of my inflatable darkroom tent!
I improvised a mask when I owned an Ebony 45SU - simply cut down a card 6x12 transparency mask to match the ground glass cover plate - this meant that it locked in place with the sliding tab.
You MUST get a Betterscanning Mounting Station! The improvement over the Epson holders is massive!
First thing I did when I got my V700 was order a Mounting Station - useable with all formats up to...
Not much help regarding your film hangers but I process 5x7 / 13x18 in a Paterson Orbital Processor? Might be an option if you can find one - usually on EbayUK.
A few days ago I took delivery of an inflatable, portable darkroom tent bought used from Ebay - I've been after one for ages :)
The seller was selling on behalf of a friend and didn't have much of...
I've used the Calumet (similar to Photoflex) as well as the Harrison Standard changing tents to load everything up to 10x8 film holders - sorry haven't used Jobo. Calumet has higher sides so more...
India ink applied with a plastic toothpick - a wooden one soaks up the ink! Do it a little at a time and allow the ink to fill the scratch rather than "painting" it - sort of cappillary action?
Ilford Delta 100 souped in Ilford Perceptol ....... mmmmmm :D
Try any silicon-based lubricant - it's what Jack Dykinga used on his Wista!
Taken on Rannoch Moor, Scotland on 1st January 2010 at 4.00pm. Walker Titan 5x7 XL Wide, Nikon 120mm f8, Canham 6x17cm back. Shot on Ilford Delta 100 through Yellow/Orange (16) filter; 1/2 sec at f32.
Slightly different but still useful? Silvestri make a tripod apron - hangs from tripod yoke and velcros around 2 of the legs. Useful pouches fro film holders, lightmeters etc.
I have to disagree with Sergei - the Betterscanning Station are not simply "pieces of brittle plastic"??? Compared to the offering from Epson they are a massive improvement in their "holders"!

Another advantage of using 5x7 is the fact that you can easily scan this format on something like the V700 with a Betterscanning Station. This gives you the choice of contact printing to 5x7 or...
I'm a relatively newcomer to 5x7 but have found that it is my ideal format. I use a Walker 5x7 XL Wide and shoot 5x7/13x18cms as well as 120 roll with a Canham 6x17 film back.
I've tried 5x4 as...
www.eckla.de/english/beachrolly This company offer a "beach rolly" ... something similar?
As long as it meets the carry-on requirements (size and weight) it won't be a problem.
Hi JV, I've owned a Silvestri SLV system and have used the S4 on a number of occasions so (hopefully) might be able to help?
