Welcome. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. I so wish I'd done it when I got out of college, instead of waiting 30 years!
I've gone completely digital in printing though, so if you're...
I'd like to get something printed just under 40x50".
I'm in California, and I have the digital file ready in PS, but I can only print 17" wide.
Anyone have a suggestion where I can go?
I'd be...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't anyone who's using movements, front or back, effectively stretching as well?
And speaking of truth, isn't art usually just a different perception of truth?
It's time to give Ektar a try. Seriously. If Fuji doesn't want to service their customers any better than this, just try Ektar. It's a beautiful, saturated film, with finer grain than Velvia and...
Well, Q.T. you should know I'm a huge fan of your work. Inspired by it, in fact.
So my observations are colored, but consider this: it's patently absurd for any critic to suggest that any art...
Sorry for resurrecting an ancient thread, but:
I have a 63mm EL-NIKKOR lens (from my lf enlarger).
How do I relate draw to image size?
I saw something like 2x1 draw for 1:1, but is that...
What film did you use for this? Normally I hate grain, but on occasion it's nice to be able to control it.
I'm not even sure how to ask this question, but I'll try.
Is there a quantitative difference between LF and stitched MF?
I have a Mamiya 7, and a Crown Graphic.
Theoretically, if I take two...
When it's changing ink, it's changing from matte to photo or vice versa. It may be the result of your paper preference as noted above. Make sure you always use one or the other, and the ink you use...
Beautiful, both of them! Welcome!
Great portrait Christopher. I wish I had that kind of talent.
I assume you mean snow.
What I hear is the first storm is going to be cold, dumping a lot of snow. But it's closely followed by another storm that's warm, which will melt all that snow, probably...
Japanese Maple, Crown Graphic, Velvia 50.
I didn't shut it down quite enough, I think.
Yosemite, November 2009.
Velvia 100, Crown Graphic, Epson 700 scan.
I agree. Thanks to QT and the others who do such a great job maintaining the best LF site on the web!
I'm interested, but I'm in Thousand Oaks, and O.C. is a little far for me.
In the big scheme of things, it's not that far, but I just don't like driving through L.A. much. :p
Somewhat closer to Santa Monica is Samy's in Santa Barbara. Still a pretty long drive, but they do mail order, and I've been pretty happy with their service.
Great help everyone, I can't thank you all enough. I really couldn't solve it without you.
Following Greg Miller's advice, I re-calibrated my monitor, and that did the trick. I don't know how it...
Beautiful shots Charles! What camera did you use? Seems to me like using LF is impractical for a lot of those.
I'm going to go to either the Amazon or Costa Rica soon, and trying to decide...
Do you do this much? Does it work well? Do you have problems with changing light, or missing the alignment, or something else? I'd really like to know more about this.
Does anyone else do this?...
I have a new problem, but similar, so I'm posting in the same thread:
My prints look much darker on the printer than on the screen.
I've done a nozzle check - it's fine. I've gone through the...
I've been emailed that the $500 rebate is on the way.
No word at all about the $350 one. I'm getting concerned.
Welcome!
I purchased the 4880 over a 3800 not for the improved gamut (which is nice but pretty small) but more for the supposed improvement against clogging. For me, anything that keeps it from clogging is...
My first LF print.
Taken in Yosemite, on a Crown Graphic, f8 3 seconds Velvia 50.
Uh, ok, nevermind. Print head cleaning seems to have fixed it.
See? I knew it was something dumb.
I'm sure this is another pretty obvious question, but it's vexed me for several prints and a couple days, so...
I'm printing a photo on an Epson 4880, and the color is way off. I'm not talking an...
The 545 does fit Fuji quickloads. I've tried it, it works.
I'm pretty sure this is a really dumb question, but I haven't figured it out yet, so...
I've read that you can achieve front forward tilt on a Crown Graphic by dropping the rail and raising the...
The Fuji quickloader fits on the Graflok just fine.
Fuji Quickloads also work with a polaroid back, and I've tried it and it works, but I've heard they aren't held as flat as with the Fuji back.
Any SCUBA diving place can sell anti-fog solution. I've never tried it on a loupe, but it's worth a try.
I do large format (4x5), and all I do is color.
Color is hard, and rarely worth doing yourself, though some people do.
The benefits of LF aren't solely for B&W, and are amazing in color.
Look at...
Anyone have recommendations on where to camp this weekend, if I don't have reservations? Is it tough getting a campsite?
Is the color still good, or is it too late?
The spec sheet for Velvia says reciprocity problems begin at 4 seconds, and at 16 seconds recommends +2/3 stop and a 10M filter. (As I recall.)
But I don't really know what that really means. Do...
Just for some perspective (no pun intended):
In order to get a very sharp picture, people spend $1000 on a tripod instead of $300 just to achieve a little more stability. People shield the whole...
So... Ansel did "fine art optical manipulation of a photograph"?
Simply accept that fine art isn't primarily representational. It's primarily art.
Hahaha. I actually have (not had, still have) a Beta, videodiscs, electric knife and a "Fat Mac".
And I have a 4x5 camera. Uh oh....:D
Might not help much, but the flash unit used to be the right handle, and there's a button on the flash that would fire the flash, and send a pulse to a solenoid which would fire the shutter.
I'm not sure if your question is inadvertently phrased incorrectly, but image quality is not currently better with digital. There are some digital film backs which rival 4x5 film, but aren't...
