  1. Re: Does anyone know which RRS QR plate for an Ebony SW45?

I have a brand new B29 plate that I purchased from RRS in 2005 for a Ebony 45S. It has never been used as I ended up buying a different camera. If you are interested, just contact me.

    Lightweight Gitzo tripod for 4x5

A Gitzo 1325 with Arca-Swiss B1 would be my preference. A lighter weight but, less stable alternative would be a Gitzo 1227 with a Arcatech ballhead.

    240mm too close to 180mm?

I find that converting the focal lengths to their 35mm equivalents is often helpful in considering proper spacing. The conversion factor I like to use is 3/10. So, a 180 in 4x5 would be equivalent...

    Looking for a lighter tripod

With your camera requirements, I would chose a Gitzo 1325. It comes with a simple top plate in lieu of the center column which can be source of instability and extra weight. It weights about 4 1/4...
  6. Three lens backpacking set 90mm, 240mm, and...?

I'd go with the 150. A 90/150/240 kit is more evenly spaced (the ratios of the focal lengths are 1.67 and 1.6 respectively) compared to the 90/135/240 which has focal length ratios of 1.5 and 1.78. ...

Did you buy it somewhere in the US? I searched and cound only find a store in England.
  9. Where Will You Be Setting Up A Tripod This Year

    Scott,

You really don't need permit ahead of time. The last time I was at "the wave", they opened up 10 permits a day on a first come first serve basis. I believe they opened up the permit for the...

  11. Arca-swiss Misura or F-line field for landscapes?

I am having trouble deciding which of these I should get. I mostly do landscape photography and want a light and easily packed 4x5 that can handle lenses from 75 to 300mm. I like the modular approach...
  12. Arca-Swiss F-line with RRS Lever Release Clamp

    Glen,

As much as I like your idea of a longer rail that folds up shipped with the new 4x5 field, I cannot see how this could work. The rail on the Misura folds up and apprently doesn't get in the...
  13. Arca-Swiss F-line with RRS Lever Release Clamp

    Hi Greg,

I have heard that you can get a bit more extension by resversing the function carriers. I am not sure this will give you enough room to focus your 300mm nikon at infinity, however.

  15. Arca-Swiss F-line with RRS Lever Release Clamp

Thanks Greg. It does appear that in order to get full use of the bellows (and allow use of say a 300mm lens), you would either have to get the "telescopic" rail or get a rail extension.
  16. Arca-Swiss F-line with RRS Lever Release Clamp

    Hi Greg and Rory,

Would any of you be so kind to post the weight of your new setup? And how much additional bellows extension can you achive with the new bellows. Thanks!

    Rodenstock Grandagon 90 - age?

    Matt,

I can answer one of your questions! 90mm is not at all too short for slot canyon work IMHO. When I venture into a slot canyon with a 35mm system, I take a 24mm (`~75mm in 4x5), a 35, and a...

  27. Are there any Ebony RW45 owners out there? Are you happy?

  30. Are asymertrical center tilts and swings useful for focusing or just a gimmick?
