Re: Bipost flash connector on Compur

I like the Sugru idea so I'll make an adaptor with a PC socket and a pair of crimps.

Yes it is obviously a retrofit, but it looked so neat, I was curious to know whether it might not have been...

Re: Bipost flash connector on Compur

Thanks for the info: it's a murky world. It seems the razor connectors are typically Female IEC320 C7 but they seem the wrong size to fit any of our measurements - see...

    Bipost flash connector on Compur

I have recently bought this shutter which comes with what seems to be a bipost flash connector. I haven't actually ever seen anything more than photographs of such connectors, but the posts seem to...

    Re: History of tripod hole

I'll let you off for thinking of the other tripod holes - hadn't even occured to me! :)
Yes German cameras and lenses too. But then I have a British-sold Petzval lens with a millimetric tread....

    History of tripod hole

I am constantly amazed how long ago some things were decided. I'd be curious to know how old the 1/4" BSW tripod hole is. I have a camera with one from the 1890s; I am sure it must be much older. ...

    Re: Knuckle-headed?

Thanks for your comments. So the knuckler has the prestige of go-faster stripes on cars. ;) It's a lot of money just for a gadget. I hadn't expected users to be so fickle but rather to look at...

    Knuckle-headed?

Looking at recent sales of Cooke Series VI 13" lenses, it seems the mere presence of knuckles triples or even quadruples the price (321329206842 vs 201038538928 or 321316944505). The information on...

    Re: The Imagon 200 5.8 for 4x5?

I agree: coverage seems fine. If there's only slight fall-off on the landscape shot, there's definitely none on the portrait. Lighting was aimed at the face plus I printed it to fit in to an oval...

    Re: The Imagon 200 5.8 for 4x5?

I use the 200mm on 5x4. The pics look fine by my liking.108199108200
  10. Re: Lens rationalisation - forum as a sounding board please

A good question which I have pondered more than once. I shoot 5x4 for the vast majority. I have two sets of lenses: colour and b&w. My colour set is made of modern lenses at different focal lengths...

    Rear extension of Verito 8.75"

I am curious about trying out the Verito 8.75" f/4. Some of the examples for sale have dodgy shutters or shutters that simply don't work. How far does the lens extend behind the shutter? I'd like to...

Also as long as the back of the lens does not protrude so far, it scratches or blocks the shutter blades.

Maybe the folk here can answer one query: what use is...
  14. Re: The difference between normal large format lenses and macro lenses.

Wouldn't an enlarger lens be a good choice for macro? Componon lenses can be had for little money. Worth a try.

    Re: Rodenstock Anastignar 285mm

If the lens is a dialyte, wouldn't it be strange that there is a single piece of glass that comes out of each of the front and rear cells? I can't imagine that the two pieces of glass would be stuck...

    Re: Rodenstock Anastignar 285mm

    Thanks Ole.
    Pictures are here.
The idea of a missing lens to explain the FL also fails on the fact that the lens gives quite a clear image - not soft or badly distorted.

    Re: Rodenstock Anastignar 285mm

    Hello Steven,

The idea of a missing lens is intriguing because it might offer a way forward in the FL problem. Looking at the lens, it's basically a barrel with glass at both ends - there are no...

    Re: Rodenstock Anastignar 285mm

I found a way of relating field of view to FL, and it's definitely around the 320mm mark. Is it common for the engraving on the lens to be out by 35mm? Rodenstock is hardly a brand known for low...

    Rodenstock Anastignar 285mm

    Dear All,

I was wondering if your collective knowledge could shine some light on this lens: a Rodenstock Anastignar 285mm f/6. There seems to be very little information on the web. Not sure when...
