    Re: Film Loading

    I have some tips here:

    http://zo-d.com/stuff/photography/how-to-load-4x5-sheet-film-holders.html

In particular you can use your finger and bend the film slightly forward to make sure it is...

Re: How much is this set-up worth

The TLR on the left could be 100-700 - can't really tell from the photo.

10 film holders at 5-10 each
One of the other holders goes for 50-80, the other is worthless.

I think that you are incorrect about vapor chamber cooling. Nvidia adopted it rather than invented it. GM, RCA and NASA all contributed to the development of the technology, long before the PC...
  4. Re: I just bought this thing online; can you tell me anything about it?

Certainly looks DIY with those cabinet pulls as handles and that focusing knob. I'd guess it is also fiberglass rather than carbon fiber. Sorry not to be able to figure out more. How do you work the...

    Re: Need some help please!

Effective f stop as you calculated is based on extension so it is the same as bellows extension. Using both would be double counting.

Re: Prime slr lens on a crown graphic??!

    Leigh,

Surely you are aware that the geometry of any given lens design scales with focal length. Because the angular coverage is similar across different focal lengths of a similar design,...

    Re: 4x5 field recommendation

It does happen on 35mm, but generally there is enough coverage that you don't notice it except for light falloff in the corners when wide open. Lenses are lenses no matter what the format.

    Re: Crown Graphic question

In my opinion a crown is good for environmental portraits as you can handhold it and use the rangefinder + wire frame and get away from need for a tripod.

    As others have mentioned, the...

    KH9 Camera with 60 inch f/3 lens

Anyone seen one of these on ebay or surplus shed?

The problem is probably going to be finding the film loader.

    More details here:...
  13. Re: Using camera movements to change appearance of scale

Correct, but the making of those miniature-looking shots is using that principle to minimize the intersection of the image plane with the subject plane. Or more precisely, to select an image plane...

    Re: Nikon 90mm SW f8

I'd hardly say it "clearly surpasses" as both lenses produce excellent images. The one thing the f/8 has overwhelmingly in it's favor is the smaller size and weight.

Re: Center Finding T-Square and Rulers

You might try sticking a center-finding ruler on a parallel rule (mayline). They are easier to deal with than t-squares.

Re: I must be insane, I started a blog

It appears to be more about words than anything else so I'll base my commentary on that. For example:

  21. Re: Film photography, a good business in the future ?

  25. Re: Film photography, a good business in the future ?

    Wrong in so many ways.

The argument that because digital is common it will become worthless has no basis. Photographers earn money because of what they do, not what technology they use to do it....

Re: Chamonix 45 as a pinhole camera

For a 55mm focal length, extend the bellows 55mm from the focal plane.

The commercially made pinholes are pretty expensive. I've built my own using the following process.

    Get a sheet of brass...
  29. Re: Resolution/contrast decreasing at larger apertures?

First, f/64 is a small aperture, not a large one. Note that the 64 is in the denominator.

The reason that diffraction is more of a problem at smaller apertures is geometry.
    Diffraction exists...
  30. Re: When will you give up large format and switch completely to digital?

  31. Re: Pt/Pd Prints From In-Camera Negatives Vs. prints From Digital Negatives.

  32. Re: If the plane of focus is a half-inch at the easel...

If you are always using the paper for focusing, consider gluing a bit of it to the bottom of your grain focuser, or tape a flap of it on that you can flip underneath. Best of both worlds.

I do this quite often. Never had a problem and never was confronted by security. You can either ask first or explain when (and if) security shows up. Asking first is less likely to work.

  35. Re: 3 meters read differently from my dslr... Why???

The dlsr is reading light at the sensor plane - so there is some loss through the lens and perhaps a bit of bellows compensation required unless you are focusing at infinity. Both of those together...
