Thanks. I was thinking feet, but wasn't sure. You're right, the numbers are almost impossible to see. I'm going to try brushing a very light coat of white paint across them to make them more...

Just pulled out my Wanderlust Travelwide for the first time in quite a while. I can't remember if the distance markings are feet or meters. Does anyone know? Thanks.
I use a vinyl padded zippered cd case with the cd sleeves removed. It fits a 150 or 210mm lens on a Sinar board perfectly. Not sure if these are still made, though. It's from about 10 years back.
I use the Manfrotto 3047 head with the 3221 legs. It's rock solid for my F1. I do all my LF near the car - I wouldn't want to carry this settup very far.
I tried the Calumet cover on a F1. I found it difficult to attach, requiring quite an effort to make it snap into place. Once on it's probably a very good thing for long term storage, but it would...
You can also use a Beseler print drum.
I also fix in trays. When I left the film in the tubes *sometimes* it didn't clear completley.
Another vote for the Beseler drum. The only problem I ever had was insufficient fixing, which I solved by pulling the film out and doing the second half of the fix in a tray. My motor base does not...
How's the parking at the ferry terminal?
So there's this little $30 thingee I can put on my Sinar to keep the lensboard from falling off. Right now I only have one board and lens, so I figure a piece of black electrical tape will do the...
I just received a used Sinar F1 that I purchased on eBay. I have figured out most of the controls, but I still have a few questions: - Looking from the back, there is a small thumb screw at the ...
I appreciate all the good advice. I was pretty much set on the Calumet but then found what seems to be a good deal on a Sinar which I should have in a few days. Do I really have to display...
I am looking to take the next step from the Bender 4x5 that I assembled about a year ago. The Bender was fun to build, works fine within its limitations, and has taught me more about LF than I...
"The only difference photographers are likely to encounter is a slight adjustment in development times."
Longer? Shorter?
The manual says "Quarts Halogen Lamp 200W (24V or 82V) w/ dichroic mirror". That's right - "quarts"! I would think that an 85W bulb would make for l-o-n-g exposures. You can reach Saunders at...
Not only do you hear "zone speak" but you may also hear "I don't know what I'm talking about speak". I heard one father telling his son that a print (maybe 20x24, maybe larger) was clearly a ...
In the US these are called the Saunders 4500-II and the 4550XLG. From the Saunders website: "4550XLG Enlargers have a higher-power light source (with higher-performance cooling system to match),...
I just saw the new AA exhibit at SFMOMA. Almost all of the prints were mounted with the reveal, which I think was the same size (maybe 3/ 8 in.?) all the way around.
If you've only seen the posters and the books you should take this or any opportunity to see his prints. Amazing.
I have the same motor base and have not experienced any irregular development with Arista 125 in D76 1:1 with presoak. I don't reverse the drum.
A couple of years ago I found some nice architectural details to photograph in Santa Fe, in and around the Plaza, early before the crowds. Nuthin' much in Albuquerque, but I probably just didn't...
Is there any difference between the Unicolor and Beseler drums?
I'm admittedly new to LF (building a Bender - not yet finished), but for my lensboard I . . . drilled a hole. Am I missing something? The lens fits fine, is perfectly centered. Why would anyone...
My limited experience with eBay has been good - 5 photographic purchases, all as described, all in the area of 2/3 the cost of the same item new. What I find amusing is the items that go for near...
I think most photographers have extended development times, rubbed prints, and even poured warmed developer on specific spots. All very exciting when you're learning and your standards aren't very...
