The 47mm xl is a great lens and a good reason for 4x5 these days. Staying with Schneider, I'd use a 90mm xl, a 210mm Apo Symmar, and perhaps either the new 350mm or the 400mm Apo Tele Xenar. The...
Mine arrived in Chicago yesterday. Beautiful piece of art. It's great to have Hugo as an intermediary agent. I am glad to got myself on the list.
Outstanding.
Thanks for your question, Asher. I like your site which I have been visiting off and on. I also felt that some of your comments here were very thoughtful.
No, I don't have any images with the...
I remember a thread stating that the Nikkor comfortably covers 8x10 while the Schneider does cover, but is a little soft in the corners (at 8x10). That was the reason for me to get the Nikkor over...
I agree with CP Goerz. 800mm bellows would make it much more versatile. There are a number of lenses in the 600-800mm range that would fit nicely with the 8x20.
Got my copy on Friday (Chicago). I thought it was an absolutely beautiful issue and informative throughout. Jim Galli's portraits were superb. I also really liked Larry Vanier's images (thanks,...
300mm/3.5. A tessar type with gorgeous bokeh.
I have heard that Bill Watkins was ill, but expects to be back in a couple of weeks (months). I don't know how accurate that is though. But it explains the previous comments.
I really like the 47mm Super-Angulon XL. There is even some vertical shift possible. It's very sensitive to focus alignment and plane of film. I have had very nice results using it with a Lupa...
throw that is, for the orthographers...
IMHO, Neil has done a fantastic job in handling this situation. I wish I could get myself to post more, but I surely like reading the comments and the wealth of information posted here. Come on...
I just thought I'd congratulate Steve for this month's journal which I thought was a complete winner. The article on Don Worth, the Texas Tintypes, Ron Rosenstock's piece, Kerry Thalmann's 4x10...
It's way cool now. Must be one of the best web site out there, with all the photographs of equipment and lenses. Very nicely organized.
I guess Kevin is certainly way off my original point. What I meant to say was something like Frank mentioned at the beginning, that PN is certainly not there because of the cool moderation nor...
Quang-Tuan Luong = QT.
Jorge, your comment is really insightful. I just never would have thought that forum moderators were that intolerant. In general, all discusions are obviously helpful to...
Thanks, folks, that certainly was some sort of a reality check. I am still baffled. I wish there was some sort of a non-PN medium format forum, that's where most of my contributions were. From...
... just thought you guys might get a kick out of this one...
I'm deleting your thread from the photo.net Site Feedback forum. Thanks for your opinion, but this thread isn't about whether...
Marflex does a really nice job, especially for Linhof repairs. In fact, for years their reputation was legendary among camera stores who accept cameras for repair. Martin is a very straight-forward...
For me there's probably some nostalgia to it. I have never bought much Kodak on my own, mostly Ilford and Fuji, but for the decade I worked for a newspaper, Kodak was it. TriX and Polymax. I...
Among the large format lenses made for macro photography, the Luminars have become timeless legends. In addition to the multicoated Zeiss 135mm Planar, the 75mm Biogon is a legend in its own right....
I guess the most famous link between photography and classical music was that of Godowsky (son of Leopold Godowsky, the famous piano virtuoso) and Leopold Mannes (son of the concert master of the NYP...
Thanks, Michael, I did mean carry-on and I would never have film in checked luggage. And no, it didn't resemble examples on the web site you mentioned. It was more spotty in certain regions of the...
Hi Michael,
I did mean standard X-ray machines for passenger luggage screeens. The airports were Logan and somewhere in Florida and the same thing return.
No George, it is unfortunate that you are making blanket statements based on biased sources.
Goerge's comments are really too unfortunate as they use general statements about the safety of airport X-ray machine. As much as there have been many who's film went through the machines without...
Yes, the typos are obvious and sometimes annoying, but from my point of view Steve only deserves applause for publishing a simply wonderful magazine. It's our magazine. Print quality is fantastic. ...
I have had multiple X-ray damage to 100ASA film immediately after 911 when I didn't dare to ask for hand inspection. On the other hand, I found that security staff has extremely improved in terms...
Thanks, All, for your helpful comments. I love the Linhofs, for many reasons, including stability, ease of use, compatibility with existing boards, extension, movements etc.. Thanks for pointing...
Hi Andre, I have had many interactions [100% positive feedback], both selling and buying, and almost all have been positive . The 95 - 98% positive experience rate mentioned above is about...
Forgot the ls in html... I do macro, cityscapes etc.: http://dentistry.uic.edu/Depts/oralb/Welcome.html
Two LF examples: http://dentistry.uic.edu/Depts/oralb/OB_uic.html and...
As a previous poster said - it depends. I do macro, cityscapes etc.: http://dentistry.uic.edu/Depts/oralb/Welcome.htm

O.k., I am surprised. My Arca B2 doesn't handle my Linhof Kardan 8x10 monorails at close-focus. Neither the GTL nor the Color. They balance o.k. at infinity, but the B2 doesn't cut it for table...
Apparently ebay has removed the item. By in large, they have gotten much better in responding to fraud issues.
Gosh, there are no stupid questions. Only stupid answers.
I guess Bob is his usual self, but as a matter of fact he is right. Build quality of the older Linhofs is truly extraordinary and the Linhof system is extremely interchangeable and adaptable.
Hurrell also used a 18" Wollensak Verito, BTW, which was probably a good choice for 8x10 as well.
I am wondering whether there is any source out there for Linhof 4x5 generic lensboards. I know they have them for Technika, but I haven't come across any source for the Kardan series. They tend to...
Thank you very much, Bob. You are the one, and your knowledge and help are much appreciated. Sincerely, Tom
