Thanks - these are coming up on E-bay all the time. I guess I will go for the 1900 series with an adaptor to hold my Horseman 8x10 monorail (26 lb with lens, slide, filters hood etc).

I am looking at a majestic gearhead to hold an heavy 8x10 monorail. They seem to have 3 series:
1000 series with 3/8" tripod mounts
1200 series with 1.5" post mounts
1900 series with 1 7/8" post...
