Re: Rittreck View 5x7 camera manual

Right, one of the good things about the Rittreck is that feature back focusing.
The Canham is a very different camera and with a very different approach: closer maybe to a "do it all", or a...

Re: Broken 4x5 protective cover glass

If it's just a piece of glass, buy a cheap clip photo frame to have the material and cut it to size.
A common size is 6x4" but if the cut is tight go for a larger one (10x8"). This glass is thin and...
  3. Re: Silvestri Loupe 8x vs. Schneider 4x Magnifier Loupe vs. Chamonix Jobo Artisan 5x

Rodenstock 4x, Silvestri 6x and Zeiss 8x. My most used one is the Silvestri (without the tilting attachment).
It's matter of GG grain size, I guess.

Re: Do's and Don't's of Linhof Technika IV

I'm making the "jump" to the rail without moving it back. I haven't had an issue with it, after many years of use.
Donīt know if the proper method is the one you describe, I actually never do this....

    Looks great.
I liker the bottom border to be a bit thicker, to hold space for the signature and other writings. I have my "templates" this way, giving a little more emphasis to the writings. So I...
  6. Poll: Re: Some Darkroom questions, mostly on enlargers

If the lens is a Componon, it is a good lens. I have tested the small ring version and find it perfectly usable for 8x10" prints.

My issue with Beselers was the lack of a practical alignment...
  7. Re: Seeking a newer 4x5 camera for mostly landscape

I'd say the Technikas are both field and press type cameras. I never handhold it, nor use the rangefinder but the GG, so mine is a superb field camera, and not heavier than the others I have. ...
  8. Re: Seeking a newer 4x5 camera for mostly landscape

Many good suggestions here. There is no perfect camera, so amongst the more "precise" options, you know you still have to accept some trades:
--Some lightweight monorails have positive detents,...

Re: Suggestions for LF field camera

If you already have a monorail, I'd definitely go for a folding metal (Wista, Toyo, Linhof, MPP... ), or a extremely lightweight wooden one.
If you don't plan to backpack intensively, a metal folder...
  10. Re: New to 8x10 - Calumet C questions (ground glass, case, etc.)

Hi... Yes, it is a big change, especially in the cost per shot! You have to be four times more convinced every time you release the shutter... ;) I belong to "the bigger the better" group, although...

Re: What enlarger is this from?

Yes, it is easier to think that the MPP derives from the Omega, rather than the opposite.

5x7" MPP (maybe also work on an Omega E3?).

Never used Fomapan but from what I read is a classic fine grain kind of film; it will be fine with classic developers.

  17. Re: An imagined LED enlarger light source for 4x5 -- NEW INFO FOR TECHNICIANS

I now stopped using Photocrescentas just because...
  18. Re: An imagined LED enlarger light source for 4x5 -- NEW INFO FOR TECHNICIANS

Philip, your idea is good, but in my experience, the main problem you will find is lack of brightness.
With larger formats, a lot of light is needed, so strip LEDs use to be a bit poor on the lumen...

I think dust is not a problem at all... as long as you keep things reasonably clean, cameras, shelves, camera bags, floors, cabinets, etc. If so, of course there will be always dust around, but in...

  22. Re: 38 year old Polaroid pull-apart film advice

  23. Re: Simple Q for LF newby: Lens shade (trad 35mm type) vs. Compendium Lens Hood

  24. Re: My Omega Condensers have scratches - any negatives (hah) with using a diffuser?

    Some thoughts:
I rarely use the red filter to compose. Do you have a good easel? I know excessive power is awkward, this is the main reason I switched LED.
Delay is not a problem at all. If LED...
  25. Re: My Omega Condensers have scratches - any negatives (hah) with using a diffuser?

If you like to print regularly and with a condenser head, I just would try to repair my enlarger (buy spares). I prefer condenser heads to anything else.
If not, I'd simply dim your Aristo head with...

    Re: LPL 4500 or a....

The main issue with the LPL is the lack of adjusting facilities. Also, it is difficult (if not impossible) to adapt a cold light source.
As mentioned, you can perfectly use it with the 4x5" chamber...
