    Re: Shen-Hao 5x7 Video...paying it forward

Great idea, Phil! Speaking for myself, and possibly for others as well, while well-written and detailed reviews are nice, there's nothing like seeing the gear in action to accentuate a point or even...

    Re: Shen-Hao 5x7 Video...paying it forward

    Hey, John,

Things are great! Hope life is treating you well too.

That Berlebach was a nice little 4x5 tripod, but my Sinar 5x7 dwarfed it. :p

As for the video, "deliberate" is the right word...

    Re: Shen-Hao 5x7 In Video...paying it forward

    You're welcome, Carl.

Whether it was his attention or not, the video maker did a great job of showing the camera in operation without fluff or sales pitch. It's too bad he lost his audio the last...

    Shen-Hao 5x7 Video...paying it forward

Last night, in my search for wooden field camera "reviews," I came across this Youtube video of the Shen Hao 5x7. I wouldn't call this video a straight review or how-to, it's more like a...

Re: Finished Walnut and Rosewood 8x10

    Hey, Jim,

I was half-kidding; you're efforts are best spent, in my view, making more art.

It just so happens you were working in a different medium this time. :)

Re: Rest in Peace...Per Volquartz 1947-2011

I attended my first workshop with Per back in 2003 when I had just began shooting with LF. He became a great mentor, friend and an inspiration to me. Words cannot express how much I will miss him.

    You're spot-on. It seems as though that's what we're coming to...or something close to it...or so I hope. ;)

  9. Re: Sources of quality prints representative of common residential architecture style

Good point, Ed. I'm facing the unenviable prospect of talking her down from the 24x36 framed print size she thinks she wants. Delicately resetting her expectations seems to be in my future. :p

  10. Re: Sources of quality prints representative of common residential architecture style

Thanks for the question. I hate to even type this... It's apparent that my friend's mom has no idea what quality images fetch. She wants to hang 8 prints at an average cost of $200 per...

Really? So, am I to assume that this is going to require a good deal of legwork and multiple sources to make this happen? Oh, me. :p

  12. Sources of quality prints representative of common residential architecture styles??

    Hey, all,

I'm hoping that those members who make their living shooting residential architecture or know someone who does can help me out with business proposal. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area,...

No worries, Steven. What you provided is still useful information for myself and anyone else who prefers to find a fix before venturing a replacement.

    Re: Bellows repair

Thanks for the extra pic and explanation, Steven!

I've attached pics of the "patched" bellows. The repair seems flexible, and yet, durable.

  21. Re: Threading a lens board hole...who does that?? :p

    Macgyver is in the house!

I cut down two sides of the flange; just enough so that it would clear the top slider and bottom slot of the Technika adapter board. I backed the flange with a vulcanized...
  22. Re: Threading a lens board hole...who does that?? :p

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I especially like the ones you offered Struan. Having the hole widened and a new flange made would be ideal, but I think I'll try working a little magic on the old...
  23. Re: Threading a lens board hole...who does that?? :p

I have a "flange" for the lens.

It's a cast aluminum beauty that only a mother could love.

Check out the pics. The flange with ~77mm threads and the lens board with a ~76mm hole.

    And, yes,...

  25. Re: Threading a lens board hole...who does that?? :p

It's hard to argue your point, Brian. "Tight budget" and "custom" anything are generally mutually exclusive.

But with that said, it never ceases to amaze me the conversations and ingenuity that...

  28. Re: Threading a lens board hole...who does that?? :p

You're right, Nathan. Generally speaking you use a mounting flange or a retaining ring to attach lens to board.

In this instance, there isn't room for the custom mounting flange that was made for...
  29. Threading a lens board hole...who does that?? :p

I'd like to thread a lens board hole but I'm no machinist. I know that SK Grimes would happily do it and charge me more than the board cost in the first place. Not my first choice.

    More great ideas! Sweet...Thanks!
