    Re: 16x20 Wisner

It's hard to believe that the 8x20/8x10 did not sell for the asking price of $2900.
  2. Re: So, how often do you really use your camera's movements?

I use movement on most photos. Not always necessary, sometimes just because I like to tinker with shots, and try different looks in the gg. I've think I turned my Wisner into a pretzel from time to...

Re: Shutter for Artar 6 inch f/9

    6" Artar is a nice 4x5 lens!

To keep a Packard open: Squeeze the bulb with the hole covered. Uncover the hole, then release the bulb. The shutter should stay open until you squeeze the bulb,...

Re: RD Artar 14" [360 mm]

I have several length Ronars and Artars including a 14". I often use them on my 8x10 at f:45. Beautiful, tack sharp transparencies. I drum scan, and print up to 32x40 with no noticeable loss of image...

    Re: Just One More Lens

Once again, Jim lets us all feel our inadequacies!:D

This is a question I would answer differently at different times. However, today I'm going to say a 1700 (or longer) Artar would be just fine...

    Re: Film for Astrophotography

We hyper both tmax and fuji for piggyback shots. A light 4x5 (orbit) works good on a Meade, but an larger, heavier 8x10 is going to push the gearing system, and slow the rotation. Tech pan was...

I agree, I turned down a free copy camera this past spring. The thing was hardly used with some parts still in their original packaging. I just got the lens, someone else took the lights and bellows,...

If you not working too far from your car, you could use a collapsible 8x8 canopy for directed shade. They sent up in a minute, can be moved easily, and can keep all your gear (and you) a little...

    Re: LF lenses are expensive.

Jim, a fire safe is a good idea, I believe my lens cabinet is fire rated at about 10 seconds. While I don't have your talent for collecting such treasures, I probably should protect what I own.

    Re: LF lenses are expensive.

If you think LF lenses are expensive now, just wait and see where prices go when the economy picks up.

I'd love to in a position to buy now, and get the several lenses that are on my wish list....

Re: Rear movements - would you/do you miss them?

I've never met a rear movement that wasn't useful. It adds a little extra weight, but that does not compare to getting a shot exactly how you want it.

Re: A poll about your field notes

    Really lousy my memory is,
So detailed notes I write and write.
F-stop, factors and all the biz,
I put it down and keep it tight,
Three pages worth, so fast, it's a wiz.

    Sometimes, when the...

  21. Re: Kodak Supermatic same speed on all speed settings

  22. Re: relationship between shooting very wide open (2.8) and film not being held flat?

    Hi Josh,

Film doesn't usually move or warp within a 4x5 holder. This is more of a concern for larger films.

Are you using a very thin, off brand film?
Is the holder old, and worn down wood?...

Re: Have I missed smth.? What with wisner.com?

The image in your ground glass will not be as bright without the fresnell, but I think focusing is easier with out it. Try just the gg first, and add the fresnell if you think you need it.

A 4x5 Wisner technical field would give you both axis and base tilt on the front standard. You can find decent used ones for a pretty good price these days.

22" E.F. Beseler opaque projector lens

I like that shot, nice curves! A yellow filter would have reduced the atmosphere haze, but I like the dreamy effect without it.
