No the stock spacers are not useful on mine. None at all is close but I had to shim a bit to get to where i am happy.
Indeed. Another point I did try to make. The Betterscan holders seem nice but...
Depth of Field is my point. There is no way a betterscan holder will get me closer to focus. I had already found there was about 0.5 mm of sweet spot with my own investigations.
The point is that...
You miss the point completely. Hi ho.
I'm not sure I understand. Nathan makes clear there is an area of about 0.5 mm where focus changes very little. What that has to do with BetterScanning holders escapes me.
80 MP back for medium and large format. About $32,000.

You do not seem to understand what I said. I see it has been explained better.
Largly because the actual focus point of the V700/V750 is somewhere around a half millimeter thick, give or take, a lot of us get good results with the regular non glass holders. The little bit of...
No. It's not bad but nothing all that special.Certainly good laptops are at that level or higher.

Yes. That's about what I found far less technically. There's about a half mm where it does not change much. Nice to see it like that.
I use vuescan and have never looked back. It seems to do my...
You will need to achieve focus. That will require tests to find the proper height for the holder/film combination.
Have you focused the Epson? A big difference between stock heights and the right height.
No. It shows the improvement offered by proper focus.
I have spent a lot of time going on about the lack of focus in most of the examples offered for comparison in these scanner tests. I do not...
The scan platform makes height adjustments easy. Big deal. You only need to find your focus height once, it does not change. Well mine has not anyway.
You can set the height many ways and...
Very sweet. That should be a sticky somewhere. Perhaps a button.
I like the icon in the search bar.

Is that a USB setup? I dunno does a G4 run USB 2 or perhaps USB 1.2? That would explain your slow speeds.
I have negatives. Everything else is derivative and really does not matter much. My time mostly is at stake. So backups for me are really not needed at all.
I have some 70 Gig of cartoons, now...
If you are going to build a RAID array then get real hard drives. The consumer ones are built to a very competitive price point.
For instance a Carviar Black 1 Terra, I use em', is about $90...
No, the only truth about hard drives was voiced, I believe by a Seagate CTO, and he said:
"There are two kinds of hard drives, those that have failed and those that will fail."
I like Western Digital but Seagate makes a good drive too. I would avoid anything else.
One thing that kills drives, and I bet a lot of portables die this way, is running them in several...
You need 64 bit. You are only using about 3 Gig of that RAM and that only because windows 32 is tricky with memory. Otherwise 2 Gig would have been tops.
Dell ... you gotta be kidding.
I fix computers around here. I build my own because I use them for three years then pass em' on usually to my daughter. They need to run for 6 years at least ......
I have a scanner too. I have tested my 35mm and my 4x5. I am confident mine at least is very near focus.
There is actual improvement up to 6400 spi but it's not much. 3200 spi works for me quite...
B&W. I should have said that. It's true this about trannys. We are scanning 4x5 in this thread.
You have no idea how many times we've been through this. Maybe search this forum.
I generally scan at 3200 spi on my Epson V700. The 340 Mb files are small enough to not be a problem and large enough to print pretty big. I just do 16x20 myself. You have a bit less than 15000x12000...
He is scanning 4x5. He should be using the hi res system. It works quite well but focus is different for each machine. He must find his best focus height before anything else.
I've never scanned...
Yup killer hardware is pretty cheap these days alright. ;)
Stock Mac Pro
CPU Xeon W3530 2.8 Ghz My cost $340
Motherboard not sure typically $200. $300
1 Terra HD Drive $100
DVD burner $35
3 Gig Ram DDR3 $100
ATI Radeon 5770 $180
It's a...
Get the Epson v700. You will have to find point of best focus, they are all different it seems.
The regular holders are fine for 4x5 but as I said the point of focus must be determined.

August 9.
They hit the ground in August sometime. You cannot buy a new one on their web store yet.
Anyway here is your 6 core processor:

Nice piece.
Yesterday actually. Your 1000 th post was a cut and paste ad. Nice.
I have some of my grandfathers glass negs from India. Pretty nice but not a lot of resolution, I have no idea how they were made.
Easy to scan ... that's fer sure.
Oh well wrong again. They went with the cheaper 5600 Xeons. You get a maximum of 6 cores for a possible 24 threads on the hypered dual processor.
The 8 core 7500s are $3000 so I guess it's not...
Hmmm works well on my Adroid Dev emulator. I'll have to buy a phone I guess.
Gonna write some apps. It's been a while but java is not all that tough especially with the fancy IDEs you get these...
Here is the new Mac Pro's competition. Well this is real sporty so maybe not. ;)
http://www.evga.com/articles/00537/
Which you can buy now. The 5520 chipset is most probably what the Mac Pro...
It seems that the 7500 series Xeons will be out soon. That will give you 8 cores and 16 threads per processor..
It's likely these will be the new Mac Pro CPUs.
You will of course pay about...
The silver cat. Self posed, I was trying out my G-Claron 240 barrel with the Galli shutter on the bike.
