I recently obtained a number of old glass plate negatives from the early 20th century.
I can scan them in on my Epson v750 at a resolution smaller than the grain.
my question is one of...
Not quite.
Though a few are of landscapes, most are quite definite as to the era in which they were taken. Some show buildings, boats, trains, mechanical equipment that simply no longer exist.
In My doctor's exam room, in which I spen a lot of time looking att he pictures on the walls, I noticed that one of the prints is of a painting of a streeet scene where one of the buildings is a copy...
So, If I have an original negative that is in the public domain, and I create a print from it, is that print a derivitve work and is that copyrightable?
I agree. Someone's going to have a hard time proving that the negative was actually taken by their great uncle Eb.
Thanks.
I just read through the other thread, "ethical / leagl quandary," and some of my questions have been answered.
were did you get 120 years from?
In one case, the photographer died in the...
I have come into possession of a couple dozen old glass plate negatives from various sources that apparently date from the very early 1900’s. For all of them, very little information, if any is...
Or you can use Fuji's "super speedy" ISO 3200 B&W instant film.
I suppose one could make a simple pinhole out of lead foil. You could put a thin film of material invisible to x-rays but opaque to visible light over it (black plastic film?)
The problem is: how...
Over the past few months, I have been, as time allows, taken up the task of scanning into digital format the many, many, many family photos that have been entrusted to me after my Mother’s passing. ...
What's wrong with a speed graphic with a working rangefinder?
As I understand the concept of the photobackpacker system, there is a backer board that fits inside the pack that is lined with velcro type hooks and all the individuale cases for the camera and...
I'm curious. How do you all strap the tripod on?
I'm looking to put together a backpack system, and I figure that I will not be able to pack the bogen 3033, unless I get an external frame pack...
Here is another from the 50's.
It's a Kodachrome taken at the Americana Hotel in Florida c.a. 1953
Don't ask me why, but I really like this image.
Maybe it's the Kitsch?
I am in t he process of scanning a huge number of family slides from the late 1940's through the late 1970's
Most are typical snapshots.
There is a group of slides from the mid 70's in 110...
My first picture posted here. I have been scanning in some old MF shots I took 20 years ago. I like frozen waterfalls, but they are tough to get just right. There is an ethereal quality to the ice...
Nice. I am headed up there in August. I can't wait.
I'm headed up to Minnesota's north shore in August.
I plan on testing out some new (well actually used, but new for me) equipment.
That is until the family gets tired of waiting for mer to...
I realize that this post is a bit of thread necromancy, but back in the ealy 90's I traveled to Minneapolis on buisness quite a bit and one of my favorite location was at Minnehaha Falls right in...

How long will the color film...
I really want to try that.
Any ideas on how to set up a prism to flip the image?
What Would Ansel Do?
Although he remained a traditionalist in his artistic vision, Ansel Adams was never one to eschew developing technology.
How then, I wonder, would he utilize today’s...
You could just mount the camera on it's side. It has two tripod mounting holes.
Why would there be no movements on its side? The camera has the same movements, just rotated 90 degrees.
A quick background: I am returning to serious hobby/ amateur photography after about 10 years off. After my son was born, I had a hard time finding the time (and the extra cash) to get out and do...
there are a bunch of different links. Which ones?
OK, how about a simple, step by step explanation ala "shutter speed tester building for dummies."
Some of us are barely able to figure...
