I just got my group 3 package and they prints look beautiful! Thanks everyone and especially Darr.
Like a numbskull I didn't include info or sign my print. Without giving too much away to those...
Hi Barry,
I use B, but as I don't shoot trained models I typically shoot for a little while with my digital camera to get the subject comfortable and so I know how they will behave before I use...
I just over-nighted mine an hour ago.
And to reiterate what has been stated here many times already... thanks very much Darr for taking the time and initiative to handle this valuable and...
Marko and Joanna, I realize why layers are flattened and that the base image is modified, and also why one would want to use layers. My question was more about the order of operations so to speak. In...
Thanks for verifying this guys. The reason I asked was that I have seen some authors writing about PS claiming that layers are less destructive than simply applying the adjustments to the base...
I have been wondering something about the way that Photoshop flattens an image. My understanding with layers is that they are applied to the image when flattened in the order, one at a time. Is this...
I am always blown away by Jim Galli's photos made with a variety of lenses. I would like to learn more about lenses that give that beautiful soft and creative look (I'm sure Jim's talent plays a...
It's about 60 miles west of Chicago, directly north of Aurora.
My favorite tree (Batavia, IL)
Sadly I have many more power-line photos in smaller formats. Not sure why...
My inspiration is simple - the weekend. Friday after work I prep my gear, Saturday and Sunday I shoot whatever I have been thinking about all week. Gotta love a day job.
Jack Dykinga - Stone Canyons of the Colorado Plateau or Ansel Adams - The Making of 40 Photographs.
Couldn't agree more. I subscribed to keep up with the latest in contemporary photography and I am usually disappointed.
As for the thread topic, I am not in any way artistically schooled but...
Well you would really like the current issue of Aperture, which has Martin Parr's Parking Spaces. I must admit, I can't imagine hanging a collection of parking stalls on my walls...
I wouldn't like to see segregation of the wet and digital prints. I would like to receive a mix.
Can someone suggest a good, advanced level, book on Photoshop (CS2) geared towards photographers? I have a couple of books at the level of Scott Kelby's Photoshop for digital photography and I am...
I would like to take part as well.
If you you want big beautiful prints you need a big negative.
The lake was in Illinois, and the other is the Wave. Both were taken with and Arca Swiss F-field 4x5, Caltar IIN 90mm lens, on Velvia.
As Daniel says the resolution numbers can be misleading - much has been written here and elsewhere on this. Most people will recommend scanning at 2400dpi, which will allow lossless prints (at...
I just bought a 3800 a couple of weeks ago and I am very happy with it. I bought it to print 16x20 B&W prints and it does a great job. I also have an R2400 which is a good printer as well - and...
Took this last winter.
Indeed. I want everything on the up and up so I don't get tossed out. I will talk to the folks working on my green card after the holidays, they should know the answers or point me to a lawyer. It's...
I am currently on an H1B visa and will be applying for a "green card" later this year. Is there anyone in the US selling photos/art while here on a visa for another purpose? I am pretty sure I need...
Thanks Stephen and all who have given so much information. I can hardly wait to get there!
Thanks for the invite Rich! Unfortunately I won't be getting to Colorado until late February. I'd definitely love to meet up with members of the group at a later date though.
Thanks again,
N.
The point is that you CAN make identical reproductions with digital work flow. It is not really possible to do this with an analog flow, although I'm sure some people will argue otherwise.
Unfortunately I don't think there is any way to tell.
Hi Brian,
My understanding has been that many people feel that a print made digitally is "worth" less than one made in a traditional wet darkroom. I assumed that this was because of the original,...
Has anyone tried this digital enlarger (504DS)?

So this raises and interesting question. If I work some photoshop magic on a digital image (direct capture...
After a thread on the use of tax money to support physics I thought I'd get back on topic. I am currently working on a project where I am photographing women physicists.

It depends. If you have an unlimited time to execute your vision then yes, however I can imagine situations where you need to perform rather than practice: a landscape with dynamic lighting or a...
Well I played a lot of jazz so I'm not sure I ever played the same piece twice ;), even in practice. In music I would spend a lot of time making sure I had the repertoire of techniques to get the...
In my youth I was a serious student of music and hence spent MANY hours practicing my instrument so that when I needed to perform, my "chops" were there at my fingertips. When I moved to the US in...
Ha, I wish!
I also have this lens and highly recommend it. It is a Caltar IIN lens and is made by Rodenstock. I have used it for landscapes and indoors for architecture. It is a bit heavy but the quality is...
Hi all,
Is there a standard for model release forms? Should a lawyer or notary look at any form I plan to have people sign?
Thanks,
N.
Hope this is the right category for my post. My wife and I are taking positions at CSU in Ft. Collins this spring and I am looking to get my photography resources in line for when we arrive. While I...
I use the Intuos2 6x8 and I love it, and would miss it terribly for detail work. I find the pressure sensitive brushes and pens extremely useful for careful touch-up work and masking. Personally I...
