The light has moved a bit between the two shots, so that makes the comparison more difficult. The Heliar DOF seems to fall off more quickly.
I've always liked the Xenar, its overall look is very...
Possibly the beginning of separation, but it looks drippy to me. Could it have been caused by a too wet lens cleaning attempt that caused seepage around the glass? Then it dried and residue remains...
Fluorescent lights are known to often show banding. If I am understanding your issue correctly, I would make sure "silent shutter" is turned off, and then vary your shutter speed in slight increments...
There are several variations on fresnel use, some outside and some inside the ground glass. As you describe yours, in general the grooves face inward toward the ground glass and toward the interior...
Hmm, this looks somewhat similar in design to my Shen 4x5 XPO, non-folding camera. Mine does both vertical and horizontal, and it has been a good solid camera, smooth to operate. My only complaint is...
You might take a look at plain vanilla Schneider Symmar-S lenses in 210mm or 240mm, f5.6. The 210 is relatively light, in Copal 1. These were pro lens back in the 70s and 80s. Still solid performers...
To keep it simple, double your previous number of pops for each additional stop.
In my experience, reciprocity failure starts to set in after 8 pops or so.
90mm doesn't have much room for movement, is OK, would prefer a 90mm f8 SA.
The 203mm is awesome, virtually identical to the Kodak version with a slightly different coating color, very sharp.
Crown kit: 90mm Optar, 127 Ysarex, 135 Xenar, 152 Ektar, 203 Optar.
Holders - 6 or 8, meter, orange and green filters, Gitzo, cable release.
I only have red, haven't had any problems with fog.
Tried the divided method for the first time today, experimented with some different 120 roll films to see how they reacted and to make sure the 6-minute times worked for me.
I'm very impressed,...
Sunway also sells a spacer for large platform tripods.
KOG has it right. If they will let you, wipe it down with alcohol, it will really help.
Welcome! Just a bit south of you in Athens.
I bought an 8x10 Leo years ago, and the diameter, in inches, was labeled on the pinhole metal.
Have you looked inside?
Or e-mail the folks at pinholeresource.com, makers of the camera. Good...
For small and light and semi-wide on 5x7, I've had good luck with: 120mm Angulon, 135mm WF Ektar, 150mm G-Claron, 150mm Computar/Kowa/Kyvytar, 165mm Angulon, 180mm Fuji-A.
Thanks Jon!

I use a simple carpenter's square.
Time sounds about right, so I'd look at exposure. Try rating film at 200, HC-110 doesn't give full box speed.
Don't forget compensation for bellows extension and long exposures over 1 second.
Thanks Bob!
I couldn't remember the name, but that is exactly what I was looking for.
Years ago in a newspaper darkroom we had "static spark guns." You pulled a trigger and a small spark was generated at the tip of the gun, much like the spark used to ignite modern gas stoves.

Nice texture and symmetry David. Good to have you back in the U.S.

I think he is referring to black plastic bags that come inside of boxes of 8 x 10 photographic paper.
Good to know that I am thinking somewhat clearly...
This should be easier than adding more shim, I just need to pull out one layer of tape and try again.
Many, many, thanks guys!
Thanks for the replies, the infinity idea is a good one.
But now I am a bit confused. I'm thinking that what I need is LESS shim?
The resulting images show that the true focus point is about...
Hi, I need a little help.
I have a Shen 4x5 XPO. I just installed an "inside the camera" fresnel lens. The Shen has a lip under the ground glass for holding the fresnel.
So, I pulled out the...

Old barn door somewhere in Ohio.
Anba Ikeda, 90mm f8 SA, Tri-X, HC-110, 1 to 63 from concentrate.
I've used two versions of the lens.
On the later / newer ones, the rear group is in a straight cylinder tube.
On the older ones, a second larger diameter cylinder is at the extreme rear.
Empty film box under the bellows.
Is it mounted in an old "dial set" Compur?
My 150mm is hard to read, I used a white china marker / grease pencil to make the numbers stand out a bit more.
The numbers on mine are not standard...
Congo / Yamasaki made 150mm and 210mm soft-focus lenses.
I think they were triplets, soft wide open and sharper stopped down. No "sink strainer" in these.
Somewhat difficult to find, but they...
