63mm ?
I have the 63mm f/2.8 'N', the earlier one I think was f/3.5 ?
Thanks, I dug out some of the info on that one.
It's interesting that it's a double-gauss type construction, unlike all of the other premium brands which are Plasmats. I wonder if the 105 is the...
Nice subject !
Here is a Beech, Infra-Red, old Llangwyfan woods, Denbighshire, May 2023
Fuji GW690 III with Rollei Superpan 200 & Hoya R72. Dev in PMK.
The neg was overexposed by about a stop,...
How do you know which blade to put on first, and how do you know whether they go on anti-clockwise or clockwise ?
It should be great.
I think this market has got very confused with people using enlarger lenses for macro 35mm work. Maybe the older El-Nikkor 135 has some cult following ?
I myself just went...
Yes, agreed.
I received a 100 Componon-S from the US this week, it was loosely wrapped in bubble wrap, without any sellotape, and then stuffed into a Jiffy bag. I have no idea what some people are...
6x9cm HP5+ in PMK for ref, I will be getting another box of 5x7" soon.

A snowy shot here that I just printed and scanned. Sorry this print didn't get retouched...

I have no idea what you're talking about.
Very cool.
I'm wondering if it's that a more 'pointed' aperture shape makes the transition between being in focus and slightly out of focus more obvious - ie. it snaps into focus a little more clearly ?
ps....
Hi and welcome to the forum. Lots of good info here.
It will do that, but the pattern will be modified, with some 10-fold symmetry, and a little more energy in the rings. However the effect on MTF ( ie. for most continuous subjects) is likely to be...
The Ilford filters come in 6" square if you want. I'm doing more or less what ic-racer is doing , with a 210 Schneider. Currently I'm just resting them on an empty red-filter holder, but there's a...
Well, you're not looking for bokeh on an enlarging lens.
There must be some reason Schneider did this, and I'm not sure why. it's not a cheap diaphragm either, it's dual-layer.
Surely a strong-ish Cyan filter is what's needed ?
That's a lot of hard work to frame up that many prints. Nice shots !
If from 2005 it will be the final version of the Componon-S, the ones with the blue illuminated scale. You'd have to go back pre-80's for it to be a 'Non S' .
I would advise testing that you get the quality you need in the corners with a 135 Nikkor at higher magnifications.
On paper you can see ( from looking eg. at all Schneider Componon-S lenses ) that...
Yes, I'm not sure still that I am 100% sure of every control.
The DeVeres are well know for their front controls, but I did find the focus on the 504 rather too coarse, it could have done with a...
Yes, the DeVere 504 is more solid than a 138 S. I used one regularly, years ago. You would not ( like I did on Monday ) knock the enlarger head off-centre slightly by catching your head on the neg...
Now check that all the shutter blades are still on their pivots and that the housing has not parted on one side.
I speak from bitter experience after someone helped me to get a dent out of the front...
I debated whether to go for 5x7 or 4x5 about 20 years ago, I'd used 4x5 briefly, but then moved to 6x9cm with a Horseman and was very happy with that. I concluded then, that some fine-grain films in...
Good effort ! (Tim)
i spent years thinking about doing that with my Gandolfi, but eventually I just weakened and bought the Durst ( and I was older and had more spare change ) .
The other option is to adjust your film speed on the meter.
In my case I would rarely shoot at faster than 1/60th sec, so based on Neil's table above, I'd add 2/3rd of a stop to the film speed - eg....
Sounds like fun !
It works for my PMK-based system because the developer is one-shot ; then I use half-strength stop bath which is also discarded ; then the lights can go on when the fixer is in...
Credit goes to Alan Clark in the UK. I have not tried the idea of the wooden cover for 'lights on' use, that's also clever.

On a calculator you'd use the reciprocal ( '1/' ) of the amount in seconds, to get the bottom number. So 101 milliseconds is 0.101 seconds, reciprocal is about 10.
Your numbers for the right...
I've just refurbished and installed a Durst 138 S in a small darkroom. The Durst's are big but less of a beast that the DeVere. You probably won't see one at a reasonable price in the US though.
This is what I use for 2 sheets of 5x7" . Based on a thread on FADU forum. These are plastic bolts epoxied into an 8x10 tray. I haven't felt the need yet to go to a bigger tray for 4 sheets, since...
Can we have some of your snow ?
Still waiting here.
At the end of my experiments here, i've actually got the Durst working and I'm not so far using the heat filter.
It turns out that for prints at 16x20" , I am OK using a 160W linear halogen bulb in...
I know what you mean, but I don't know how easily I could use all of that extra data in the time it takes to take a photo. For me it seems enough to get a good fix on the change of the average...
It's not really a funny-acting emulsion, the 100 and 400 are pretty basic, quite old-fashioned. the 200 is a bit more like a modern T-Max style emulsion.
There is an anti-hahltion layer but it's not...
Not everyone who posted in 2006 will respond to a PM !
That is a nice shot - great to be able to take a 'snapshot' on 5x7" !
Thanks, those are useful starting points. Maybe suggests that the published curve is not as odd as shown, if you can use Delta 100 numbers ?
I can believe the G(XO) is only 1 1/2 because I...
Exactly - a third of a stop.
I could have predicted that this is the way it would go.
Yes, I know how to do the work, it's just that the idea of a forum is that we can share information and that someone might already have...
Hi All
I'm just wondering is anyone has worked out any filter factors for the Foma emulsions.
I'm well into a pack of 5x7" already, mainly test shots of one sort of another, but hoping to keep my...
