  1. Re: LF Gathering: Alabama Hills, CA May 6-7, 2016

I might try to get out there too. Even though I live in the mountains, there is something about the Owens Valley that reels me in.

Re: New Gibellini 8x10 Camera - First Look

Agreed, functionality is why I have kind of cooled off on plunking down a deposit at least for the moment....

    I am currently using a Chamonix 45N-2 that weighs a feather-like 3.3 pounds, has...

    Re: What have I got?

Heck no, been shooting a lot of 4x5 lately but that is because it was the right tool for that job.

I still think this camera has the makings for a great mural enlarger...;-)

    Re: What have I got?

That for portraits? Nah, just use a good medium format camera and get down to business. As for the hardware in the photos, I would convert that sucker into a good horizontal mural enlarger.

Re: Super small, yet sharp 150mm?

Looking at your spread of lenses, a great fit might be the lens I have, a 135mm 5.6 Apo Sironar S, a tad wider than a 150 and bit deeper inherent depth of field.

    It's smaller than the 150 S and...

Re: Rear Tilt - What am I Doing Wrong?

    Yes and no...

With using front tilts and swings only you are moving the lens projection angle in relation to the film plane and if the movements are significant enough, you can hit the edge of the...

  9. Re: Worth continuing with PS and LR subscription?

I don't use both, I have Lightroom but I just don't like it as a data asset manager, too much going on so I just don't use it. I import and catalog using Capture One Media Pro which used to be iView...

    Re: Technical Pan Film

I actually have a nice stash of Techpan in 35mm & 120, all last expiration dates frozen since new. But I have one box of 50 sheets in 4x5 and even though I have Technidol and TD3 to soup it in, I am...

Re: New Gibellini 8x10 Camera - First Look

This is one thing you don't see in any other format, the degree of fresh, artistic and practical engineering in new products. Looks like a nice camera, but maybe hold off on the review though until...
  12. Re: Wider than 90mm w/ movements for 4x5, low light.

Well I just ran some test film from the 75 Nikkor and some 35mm and 120 from the first day at the Quarry, all looks good. I take the 4x5 into action on Saturday, should be a good time!
  13. Re: Wider than 90mm w/ movements for 4x5, low light.

Ah, right, I had it reversed. There are a couple of 67mm .6 filters out there but that is 2 stops vs 1.5 so that would have me likely doing the same thing, correcting for reverse fall off.

    We'll...
  14. Re: Wider than 90mm w/ movements for 4x5, low light.

That is what I was thinking, you just dodge the center a bit, correct?
  15. Re: Wider than 90mm w/ movements for 4x5, low light.

I'll certainly keep an eye out for the right filter ( Rodenstock 170002 ) but my hope is that since this is likely to not be used with lots of blue sky, I may be able to get away with it in B&W.

  16. Re: Wider than 90mm w/ movements for 4x5, low light.

I would not mind the weight so much since this would be a lens that would be used for urban exterior / interior and not landscapes per se. But...I am also not a fan of one trick ponies and a wider...
  17. Re: Wider than 90mm w/ movements for 4x5, low light.

I just bought a Nikkor 75mm 4.5, 30mm more IC than my 65 Grandagon but still a manageable size & price. The 72 XL would be awesome for the huge coverage but since I rarely use larger than a 90mm as...
  18. Re: Wider than 90mm w/ movements for 4x5, low light.

I'm just wondering if I should not go for a 72 XL though to really open up the wide end. Seems a fair bit more expensive.
  19. Re: Wider than 90mm w/ movements for 4x5, low light.

Would it need a center filter for negative film?
  20. Re: Wider than 90mm w/ movements for 4x5, low light.

This will all be from ground level to maybe on top of a couple of large blocks I can get to via a cherry picker. Even though I have my own sport rock and industrial climbing gear, I would defer to...
  21. Re: Wider than 90mm w/ movements for 4x5, low light.

    Thanks Corran,

Yes, black and white film and I would likely be able to get the crew to floodlight the interior for me to hit the corners. I am hoping on the scouting mission I will see a 90mm will...
  22. Wider than 90mm w/ movements for 4x5, low light.
