I really enjoyed these. Thank you.
Ken, ..... You and your daffodils! They are exquisite! You should write a book just on shooting daffodils!
BTW Daffodils are long gone down here. Irises just about over, too.
Hi All,
I am going to make a new bellows for my Ansco 5x7 View camera. Its the grey painted one with black knobs with the lens tilt. The original bellows is tight stretched out to about 16". The...
Just my two cents which could be wrong -- Doesn't the red filter make blue skies go dark? Which amps up the contrast making white clouds stand out. There are indeed days in the south, I'm in...
Really well done!
There is a great deal of talent here! Good work all!
No worries, happens to the best of us. Welcome to a nice forum!
His studio space is 15 foot max. You gonna get a big studio camera in there to take portraits? Seems too tight for me....
I'll trade you a 127 Ektar which is what should go on that camera for that old helliar....
Just kidding, congrats! I love my Anniversary, my first 4x5.

Paul is barefoot. And 28IF..... She knows.
Great stuff as always, Mark.
Thanks, Ken, good points. Richard, I think your flowers are beautiful. What nice tonality! They seem to glow.
What exposures? Looks f32 or so?
and forward tilt on the typewriter keys?
I never get tired of your photography, Jim. Would it be too much to ask to post a pic of the lenses themselves?
Thanks,
Mark
Cool stuff. I have a question. 1:1 occurs at double the lens focal length, right? That is, at 420mm bellows length for a 210mm lens. So would you get the same image with a shorter lens, say a...
I have often wondered about the angle of the grey card. Your explanation makes perfect sense. Thank you!
Just wanted to say I have learned a lot of good ideas from this thread. Thank you, all.
Open pupils are always more attractive. Its a psychological thing. Wonderful portrait, Ramiro.
Beautiful. Your work is always an inspiration, Emil.
Ken, very nice! Did you dodge the center or is it straight scan or print?
Nice. I have a Bessa with a Voigtar. Really nice 6x9 folder. Nice photo, James.

Corran, these are cool. Nice work. It would be helpful to me to know which is the 150mm and which the 135mm just from a perspective point of view. Thanks,
Mark
Of course films of the past were much less sensitive to red spectrum. Think of the red window on the back of all those roll film cameras. Listen to Jim. He's been there done that.
Beautiful, Nate! Love the depth of field.
Thanks for that link. Very interesting. There is a picture of Eliot Porter there with a Graphic View. Glad to see that endorsement! (I love my Graphic View!)
I love Eliot Porter, too, but I thought his photography was 35mm and dye transfer. I certainly might be mistaken.
EDIT: Appears I am mistaken. He used a Linhof 4x5 according to some website. I...
Those round plates, I believe, are the bearings that the rollers ride in. If you have a sluggish shutter, these are the usual culprit being gunked up with old grease. A cue-tip with naptha will clean...
Hi Lee and Sergei,
Not trying to be critical; I am wondering about the response of the film. I do like the Meet the Beatles look, good work. Hats off to you both and Corran and all you guys. I have...
Please don't take this as criticism. The last few portraits and the flowers seem to have no detail in the shadows on my monitor. Could be my monitor. Do you all have detail on the neg? For instance...
Ootsk... nice. Nice light.
Greatwork, everybody!
I wanted to address Sergei's two portraits above, the one of Mari and the one of Jenn. Your skin tone rendition is beautiful and exact. What's the secret? Do you print these...
This may not be related but on my D2 condensors there is a deep scratch about an inch long. If I print at f32, it will show in the print. So...... I print at f8 or so. I've had to use a voltage...
It seems a trolling question.
Yep, I think that is true. This also shows how precise the cams should be. Its doable with simple hand tools. A caliper helps but not necessary.
My advice would be to go for it and persevere.
I've made cams for my Super Graphic. It takes a few hours each. I've made a 90mm, 152mm, and a 205mm. The main ingredient is patience.
It's not hard either. Hacksaw a piece of brass or steel the...
I agree, David. Thats a beautiful photo.
How do y'all like it upside down?
I've heard mentioned using sandpaper on the edges to make them more "seamless."
Jim, You are a true artist and an inspiration to me and others! Fantastic work making these cameras and negatives come alive.
By the way, what does Calgon do? Is it for washing the negs?
Many...
As an aside, I think it underlines the importance of studying photography. Steichen, Stieglitz, Eliot Porter, Karsh, on and on.
It makes me remember the thread "These I Like." Ken, are you still...
Guys, this is not a motorized dryer. Those are generally called belt dryers and are automated. This is just a heated drum that you lay a wet print on and then pull the canvas over it to keep it in...
Thats a great article, Sandy. Thank you.
Seems pictorialism has struck a resonant chord here.
Is it mounting tissue? I don't know but if it is, it is used with the dry mount press.
Good luck Richard and have fun.
