All math factors aside I find that a 14" lens seems to be ideal for portraits on 8"x10" and a 19" for 11"x14". Assuming of course that the subject is framed from the waist up.

Never thought about X-Ray film hangers. Thanks Oren. I will research that angle.
Has there ever been 11x14 sheet film hangers produced for processing film in a tank system?

So maybe I missed the point. According to the information from Tim there would be no charge for an amateur photographer using a large format camera even on a tripod. It seems this is more pointed to...
My 11"x14" setup tops the scales at 48 pounds packed in a case with three holders. The case and Ries tripod are secured on a Roleeze cart for ease of transporation. Fairly easy to use as well.

Not sure if you are referring to the physical heat or the color...
There have been some very good suggestions. I honestly figured that above 4k would cook the subject. I have used the 4k super softlight in the past and that bright yet not overly offensive to the...
There has been a few discussions over the use of lighting for portrait work. Of particular interest is the use of a continuos light source. I am looking to do some portrait work on 11x14. As always...
Lee,
I am in the area and could be of assistance. E-mail me offline and we can discuss further.
"Little known lenses, or barrel, or uncoated optics still seem to fetch next to nothing."
I only wish that was the case for barrel lenses. It seems as if an Artar lens no matter the condition...
Jorge,
I am not sure if I follow you. Do you use this technique for inspecting prints in a vacuum frame?
The idea of a scanner did cross my mind yet I would need an 11x17 as I will be doing 11"x14" prints. As far as the process goes so far I have had no problems with the Zia process. My only concern is ...
Thanks for the info Sandy. I do intend on switching from the Zia process. The intent with Zia was to start the learning curve. As for Pyro I will be starting that as well. My negatives have been fine...
Okay Ken. I would consider using a more traditional Platinum Palladium process. So far I have had good results with the Zia. If I have a negative that is good for Platinum using the Pyro method you...
So here is the dilemma. I will be doing some portrait work that will be printed on Platinum Palladium. My main concern is how to proof the images prior to printing the final images. The negatives...

Ron,
Be sure to keep your options open. As much as we all hope that the Azo replacement is a done deal there are still no guarantees. The time frame for the Azo replacement may be later this year...
I use the same frame when I print my 8x10 negatives. Great frame. My only complaint is that the screws holding the wooden springs in place tend to come loose. I went ahead and replaced the screws...
Thanks David. I was thinking as Majestic as well. Are they still made? I have seen the Davis & Sanford available for video camera use. Should work fine for ULF. Do you currently use any large geared...
My current tripod for use with 11x14 and larger is a Ries. Very nice to use in the field. In the studio there must be a better way. Many years ago I worked in a studio that specialized in shooting...
My Minolta spot meter with a cold battery.
Far too late for that Robert. I am into a batch of Ziatype. Hooked for good on both Azo and "the dark side". Looks like another trip to the pawn shop.

"Congratulations. Personally I've found LF to be additive like crack... only more expensive".
No kidding. Crack MUST be cheaper...8x20/11x14 film, Azo,Amidol, road trips. What the heck is an...
Sold my 501CM to fund an 8x20. Life has never been the same. Not only did large format change the way I feel about photography...the 8x20 changed the way I feel ab0ut life in general. Shooting...
Michael,
Just wondering what format size is we are talking about here. I know that cutting down 11x14 for Azo printing is a tad bit of a waste. My 8x20's work very good on a 20x24 sheet of...
My first box of 11x14 film was J&C Classic. After one box I moved on to try Efke. That box of Efke changed my opinion of the Classic film. Although the Classic is good film David is correct about the...

Brian,
Not really a problem. After the past few days and all of the advice on this post the problem has been solved. Yes the 8x20 is fitted with an 8x20 back. While I can easily remove the 8x20...
Yes Brian it is time to chime in. The past few days have been spent shooting. After reading all of the comments there seems to be some confusion. Many make me out to be a casual shooter who only...
What can I say? I MUST be mental. A few years ago I went through what most experience when "upgrading" my format choice. The 8x10 was getting rather small so bagan my journey into the world of ULF. ...
Robert,
I have a set of the same on my 8x20. If Ron were operational I would have him make me a set. That may be many months away though. They are nice bellows. A tad beefy as well.
Forgot to mention that there is a full 50" of bed on the camera as it is a triple extension. From the sounds of it a longer set would be the way to go. My only concern is getting a good design. The...
Mu current Wisner 11x14 was purchased used with a rather short set of bellows. The was original owner ordered the bellows this way. Now I find that there are shots where some extra length is needed...
Heck of a deal. I use an 11x14 Wisner for portrait work. Even mounted on a Ries the camera is a difficult to work with. Do what ever it takes to move that monster. Having worked with a 11x14...

Michael,
I think that I can say everyone does appreciate your efforts. Please keep us up to date as much as possible.

Daniel,
Agreed. I do not believe for one minute that Kodak will replace Azo. Call me silly. After two decades of dealing with Kodak my faith has dwindled down to almost none. Michael does have...
As an avid Azo user I felt the pain of the plant closing last month. Maybe Michael A. Smith can bring on a new replacement for Azo. What I fail to understand is how Kodak will agree to produce a...

The time has come to take the plunge into the world of pt/pd. For my first few images I will be using 5x7 negatives. Once the process gets more comfortable the primary negative size will be 8x20 with...
