  1. Re: Looking for classic grand hotel tween Baltimore and VA

In Baltimore, the Belvedere is about as grand as it gets.

Unfortunately most of the classic hotels - including the aformentioned - in the region have been converted to apartments/condos, so if...

My biggest complaint about 11x14 is the expense of film holders.

What camera to buy if you only had $100

You can buy four or five Holgas for $100. Who cares if they don't hold up? ; )

Otherwise a Burke and James 4x5 press with a Zeiss Tessar can be had for under $100 usually. Great cameras.
  7. Focus shift when stopping down Goerz lenses

I use a Pantar set with no shift as well. No Artar that I've owned has ever exhibited the the tendency either.
  8. Are big prints just little prints made bigger?

    And for something completely different...

I only contact print, so I make the choice up front as to what size I want my final print to be: 5x7, 8x10 or 11x14. Thus in my case a big print is not...

A good 8x10 film holder bag

    Mark,
I use plain old white kitchen garbage bags to keep dust out. They don't last forever, but they're cheap and effective and are big enough to accomodate 11x14 holders.

  14. Bogen 3205 tripod seems wimpy under 3047 head

I've used a 3021/3047 combination with my Deardorff 8x10 for 6 or 7 years. The only weight issue is some splaying of the third section of the legs if extended beyond 8 or 9 inches. Otherwise I find...

My old f/9.5 was labeled 6-1/4" Extreme Wide Angle Velostigmat Series III. I don't think the WA vs. EWA rule can necessarily be trusted. Mine was uncoated in a #3 Betax.

    Supplies for Alt. Process Printing

I got tired of breaking rods, so I use a Richeson 9010 for pt/pd as well. I do, however, use a hake brush for speading gums (and a real cheap ass synthetic to smooth it) and cyanotypes.

  37. After shooting 8x10 what did you switch to?

Add a 5x7 back to your 8x10. It's much cheaper than going ULF and a mighty versatile format. (I bought an 11x14 after 8x10, but I still shoot about 40% 5x7 vs. 59% 8x10.)
