    Togs II

Note to Wesley: You can't recognise a fault in someone else unless you also have that fault. Did you notice any condescension in your post?
  3. 150mm or 135mm lens for the 4x5 enlarger?

Unless you plan to do large prints that you don't have enough enlarger elevation for, I recomend the 150. I know I can do 20x24 with a 150 on my 45vxl. I haven't tried 24x30. I am fortunate in that...
  4. Compur Electronic 3 - battery position?

4.5 volt batteries are still available at radio shack. They are listed for a mac computer.

    Film advice

My vote is for fp-4 in pyrocat-P. If I was going to have a lab do my stuff, I would probably shoot Xp 400@ 200. I find it is more forgiving for a wide latitude of shooting.
  6. Lens shade for 250 mm lens w/ 67mm filter size?

I have never regreted getting into the lee filter system.

    Roger,

The caliber for 8x10 is claymore.
  9. "Re-scaling" a Copal 3 shutter - how to ?

I contacted schneider about a scale for my 240 G-claron, as it is one stop off. I was quoted $90.00.
  10. Modern 300mm lens w/ 67mm filter?

    Mark,
"These are all "low budget" tessars, and it's psychologically hard for me to move to a cheaper lens, even though it likely performs on par with its more expensive cousins."

    those new epson scanners

    Ted,
Thanks for the info. There is just one thing that sticks in my craw, they're in the store but no review units? Don't they have a production line? Won't a random sample work? Are the review...

    Lens for Botanicals: 4x5

    Mike,
I have a 210 macro sironar. The front and rear elements are interchangable in the shutter, depending on what magnification you are using.

    8x10 enlarger

I've had my 8x10 Salsman for about a month now and I'm enjoying it very much. I got it, with two companons, for about 1/3 the amount you are talking about. As nice as they are, as much as they are,...

    Beseler Universal 45 Head

    Howdy,
I think you are going to have to get one the same way as you got what you have. You indicate you have the manual. If you already have the head and need the controller you'll just have to...

    New shutters for old lenses?

Is the shutter rebuildable? I would rather have the old shutter in good shape than a new copal. One of the things liked about old lenses was the smoothness, which I think personally has to do with...
  17. Pyrocat-HD & Jobo to scan negs, how to calibrate?

I think if I was going to expose for scan only, I would make them a little less contrasty than I would for printing normal. Then again most of my negs are keyed to Azo and carbon, which might tax the...

    Motto for us elderly LF'ers

Let's see, knee surgery 16 years ago, cataract surgery 10 years ago, pacemaker 1 1/2 years ago. I'm holden' up pretty good for 57.
  19. new shutters for process lenses

I don't know if I would take a new one if available. I would prefer one of the older shutters with many iris blades.
  20. Black-and-white images via HP DesignJet 130

Put paper in printer. Immerse printer in tub of Dektol 1:1 for two minutes with agitation. Sorry, I broke my brain and I can't get up.
  21. 4 x 5 vs 5 x 7 Enlarger: Which One?

I agree with Ralpf for the most part. The advantage I saw is that I didn't need to switch to a 135 for larger printing. True there are less 5x7 enlargers out there. Let's say there was only one, and...
  22. Lens designs with swirliest bokeh?

Phil, I would consider it bokeh. If it is as has been described, the quality of the out of focus part, anything out of the depth of field would fall into the bokeh zone. It would all be bokeh no...
  23. Selective Focus in the Landscape

I find selective focus very useful to get a three dimensional effect on a two dimensional medium. Very useful in directing the viewer thru the print.
  24. possible chemical contamination problem question

Not to worry, It's the same end as if it never happened. The worst view is that the fixer has been used to develop one roll so far.
  25. Roll film holder options for Wisner Trad'l 4x5?

I have one of the grafloc backs for my wizner. It works good but you have to setup and then remove the two thumbscrews then install the roll film adapter and take the shot. The back was $200.00 and...

    Enlarging lens for 8x10

I cranked it all the way up and got about 4' square out of 12" square coldlight. About a stop dropoff from center to edge. But that is farther than any neg goes. I dropped it down to 20x24 size. Wide...

    Enlarging lens for 8x10

I use a 300 rodagon and have not found any softness to the image at the edges, checking with my peak. I just got the enlarger and have only made 20x24 so far. Now my interest is peaked. I'm going to...

  29. Lens hood of lens for 12x20 format

I'm not sure of the adapter sizes, but I agree with the recomendation for the wide lens shade. Be sure to get the wide angle version of the adapter.

    300mm enlarger lens

  34. My positives just came out black

I would also check the holder to make sure that there isn't a clip that you might have inadvertantly pulled off previously, therby not letting the new sheet lock in .

I second Jim, forget the commercial and get the wide field. I know the wide field is a lot more money. There IS a reason why.

    cheap 8x10 field camera?

    cheap 8x10 field camera?

As long as you don't expect front movements, or a real rigid camera, I think you can get one fairly reasonable. I'm thinking 2D, or something like that. Cheap is a relative word when it comes to...
