    Re: Friends in greater Boston

I'm in Arlington, but I'm starting a project in New York this week, so I'll only be home on weekends.
  2. Re: Using film development to control contrast

I'd suggest that you pay $50 and have the View Camera Store run your tests. Fred will expose 5 sheets of film for you. You develop each sheet at different times and send them back to him. He'll...

Re: Portrait lens on a Speed Graphic 4x5?

Speed Graphics have plenty of bellows draw for a 210mm lens. As for a cheap portrait lens - the 203mm Ektar is excellent, and you can fold the camera closed with it attached.

And there are alternatives to the way Wall Street is run now, other than adopting the system in Cuba. Creating a false dichotomy does not further your point; it only makes you appear ignorant.

LOL. That's why I bought a Nikon CS 9000 ED. My Epson 4990 now serves as a paper weight.

If you stopped to think about Jody's comment, instead of trumpeting your vastly superior intellect, then you'd realize that non-visible light could matter. It is waste because it consumes power, and...

    Re: Flash output question

Paul Buff has a nice table of expected light output with various modifiers. Even though the OP doesn't own Alien Bees, he can still use the table to estinmate light loss with various modifiers.

    Densitometer Recommendations

I used to borrow a friend's Heiland densitometer, but unfortunately it has disappeared. So now I'm looking for a densitometer to test B&W film. I just need straight transmission readings - nothing...

I always acknowledge that photography is an expensive hobby. And then I take credit for not buying a little red sports car or chasing young women.

SK Grimes can do just about anything that you can imagine. I've had them do a few routine things.

    Re: Shen Hao XPO

I can live with that. But I'll wait to see if the 360mm of bellows draw is the true value of if it's a marketing number. Either way, I really am looking forward to getting my new camera.
  27. Re: Is the zone system now redundant because of box speed and MC papers?

Re: Yosemite in the news---very sad.

Yes, there are a lot of visitors to Yosemite. But the crowds thin out once you're 1/4 mile from the trail head. So there are advantages to the increasing rate of obesity!

    Re: Shen Hao XPO

Agreed. I ordered mine from Badger Graphics this week. A custom camera with 400mm of draw would take close to 2 months to arrive (and would be $180 more with delivery added), so I'll use a top hat...

    Re: Shen Hao XPO

The Shen Hao XPO has a bellows draw of 360mm. You can have one customized, but it adds $100 to the cost, and shipping from China is $100.

  32. Re: Is the zone system now redundant because of box speed and MC papers?

You should use what works for you. I do find it odd, though, that people who do not use the zone system often choose to mischaracterize it.

There's nothing wrong with understanding the materials with which you work.

    Re: Film speed test.

    Re: Film speed test.

Two points determine a line, and I'm always operating on the linear part of the curve. So I find the other zones by using y = mx +b.

I only have on 4990, so all I need is one stupid sale.
