Hi- it’s kind of a pedestrian question, but out of curiosity can anyone ID this 8x10 that Jan Groover is using in the (great) documentary “Tilting at Space”? A Canham maybe?

well thanks to a kind member over at Photrio, it turns out the Meridian discs are 4" in diameter, and 1/16" thick. Mystery solved!
Does anyone know the exact diameter measurement of a Meridian 45A round lens board? Thanks for any info!
Where are you getting your bellows from? I have a B&J that may need some in the near future…
Slipping is a basic flight maneuver and IS part of basic flight training. I’m a licensed pilot, and at least in my training, side slips were a basic maneuver required to pass the checkride- plus they...
Looks like it- This text accompanied someone's Flickr-posted image of an engraving:

I have a 45a, but I don’t think it has any stops (now I’ll have to go look…) since the toyo doesn’t have a rangefinder wouldn’t infinity stops be more of a ‘serving suggestion’ even with the scale?...

This Gundlach 5x8 (from that wonderful site with all of the old lens catalogs) seems very similar- an 8-1/2” lens that maybe can be used front-cel rear-cel only as well?
(Also I think I’ll...
Roberts is a brick and mortar shop in Indianapolis. I mention them because that’s where I ran across the lens. I don’t think it’s allowed to post their links or photos of the lens here, so I’m not...
Has anyone here ever heard of a CHAS A. GUMP Rectilinear 5X8 Lens? Because apparently the entire internet never has….. Roberts Photo currently has one and google is coming up empty handed.
[QUOTE=Bernice Loui;1618619]Not that "low cost".. IMO, the days of bargain view camera and lenses and related have passed....
There is a circular lip in the rotating back that rides on (and is held in place by) washers. You can see the lip/channel in one pic, and the insets on the camera's body where the washers would sit....
So this probably only applies to about 3 people on planet earth who care, but I’ve read here (and elsewhere) about problems with the rotating backs on the 4x5 burke & james press cameras leaking...
Hi!
As a happy Brand-17 owner I can tell you that it’s unfairly maligned, and it’s a great, useable camera. It’s very compact for a double rail, not heavy at all, and it’s just fun and easy to use....
Thanks very much! I gotta say tho, I find the Brand exceptionally easy to use (no fussy geared movements!) it’s one reason i keep dragging it out :D
This is a cool thread. Here’s a modest contribution hoping to keep it going:

Thanks! The site is a little out of date now, but those things always take a back seat to day to day work...
About the "The Standard" or any 3D printed camera, I wonder how robust the plastic from...
Hi-
I commandeered my wife’s old ipad (i think it may be the very first ipad ever made) as a light source for dslr scanning 4x5 negs. I use an app called isoftbox- maybe the only app that this...
I totally get it! My favorite is still a "Brand-17" from the Brand Camera Co. It's just fun to use. Someone did a nice job putting a graflock back on it. Sometimes those simple old cameras cast a...
Has anyone here had a chance to use one of these cameras?

If the link is a dud for some reason, it looks like (another) kickstarter-born 4x5 camera.
It looks kind...
Thanks for the suggestions- it would be fun to have screaming red bellows on this nice little camera (if that’s an option)
Do i dare ask what kind of ballpark cost and turnaround time would i be...
Hi- I have this early version of the B&J Speed Press (non rotating back) and the bellows are very pinholey to put it mildly. The front mount looks to be 4 x 4" square, and the rear looks around 5 x...
Hi- The last 1000ml kit I had I kept the mixed chems (2-bath) in the fridge between uses and it was still fine after 9 months, but I dumped it after that, not wanting to push my luck. I’ll see how...
I wish I lived in Zurich :)
Yes Southern exposure, and very leaky old windows!
Maybe I stink at searching this site, but I haven’t seen a good compilation of studio layouts in one thread, and I really like seeing other workspaces for inspiration, whether it’s a monster daylight...
I would also add this step:
Relax and Enjoy the process
And also realize you can really mess things up and still end up with printable negs. I started a development a while back by filling the...
Hi- I’ve used those fabric hair bands to keep the film rolled, just remember to roll them a scootch one direction or another halfway thru the fix, and again during the wash so you dont get a line...
Hi-
Saw this jewelry tree at a local Michaels Crafts (probably any of those generic craft places have them) added mini-binder clips to the branches, and bingo! Rotating 4x5 film drying rack that...

Hi- Thanks for the offer and the tip! I do have some small tension springs that may work, I'll give it a shot-
Thanks- I'll check with Ace, but how have I gone this long in life without McMaster Carr? You could build an entire camera just from that site.
Hi!
I'm cleaning up a neat little Newton New-Vue, and the pop-up hood had both torsion springs broken, so it just flops. I'm looking for any ideas of where to find a replacement spring that small,...
Hi- if you’re still looking, the best solution I’ve found for dslr scans is to shoot with the dslr white balance set to your source light (in my case, 3000k tungsten), save all the neg scans to their...
One accessory I found really useful was a toyo monocular finder, kind of a giant loupe that clips onto the gg/back so you can see the whole glass magnified without a dark cloth. Oh, so many...
I loved my toyo G, but moved to a smaller field camera. If you ever can make it down to Portland, it's sitting on consignment at the always-fun-to-visit Blue Moon Camera in St Johns neighborhood.
Hi-
My Brand 17 is similar, except there is a large diameter thumbscrew on mine where there doesn't seem to be one on yours- The large screw loosens to rotate the back, then tightens up against...
I'm gonna throw in for the taco too- I use black hair bands and fit 4 sheets in a stainless tank made for 2-120 reels (or 4 35mm reels) but halfway through the fix i pull each sheet and roll the band...
