  1. Re: Moon exposure...not what you might think!!!

I would say your best bet is to make a bunch of exposures (and keep notes) and see what works better. Use 35mm or just make a bunch of exposures on 4x5 at 4 minutes separation. The moon is 1/2 degree...
  2. Re: Moon exposure...not what you might think!!!

If you goal is to have a photo of the moon itself (See first link) I'm not sure why you would want to use a LF camera. Absent getting access to the Lick 36" refractor or the like I can't imagine...
  3. Re: Moon exposure...not what you might think!!!

The problem is trying to get the moon and any other night sky object in the same shot, the moon is just a LOT brighter then even the brightest stars and planets. The moon is about mag -9 at full...
  4. Re: Moon exposure...not what you might think!!!

Try over on cloudynights.com great astronomy forum and there are some of us film nuts over there. :) Just remember that the moon is a sunlit object. So even if it is dark where you are standing the...
  5. Re: Moon exposure...not what you might think!!!

If you are using the sunny 16 over expose 1 stop, the moon is about 8% grey.

When doing moon photos I generally use my 35mm with a 1900mm Lens (Telescope). Even then the disk of the moon does not...
  6. Re: Exposure for star trails, with 1/3 moon

1 Point away from the moon.

For star trails reciprocity should not matter, really. The thing is each spot on the film will be illuminated for a few seconds before the star drifts off to the side....

Re: Getting a Bogen 3036 vertical

Buying a new tripod is not an option right now. I'm a little broke and everything in Israel costs 3x as much as in the USA. So I had better learn to love what I got.

    Getting a Bogen 3036 vertical

I have a Bogen 3036 that I use for my Sinar as well as a telescope and various other things. The problem I am having is that since each of the legs can move freely when you set it up I can never get...

  15. Re: How many film holders (per format) do you own?

I'm still looking for more, PM me when you are ready to sell, I may be willing to take a bunch of them at one go.
  16. Re: How many film holders (per format) do you own?

I have a readiload holder, the only problem is that no one imports the film into Israel, and ordering it from B&H or the like is just way to expensive for me.
  17. How many film holders (per format) do you own?

I was wondering, how many film holders do most people have for any given format? I currently have 12 4x5 holders, and a quickload holder for which I can't get film locally. I was thinking about...

I work in SEO, and its kind of a black art, but having good photographic web sites be linking to each other, as well as from fora like this and blogs is a good thing.

  39. Re: Large Format Displacing Your Old Medium Format?
