Let us know if you decide to make 5x8 sheaths to fit full-plate or standard 8x10 holders.

  3. Re: Schneider Super Angulon XL 47mm f5.6

If the center filter causes mechanical vignetting then maybe it is limited to 137mm or so. I don't know. I suppose one could trim the center filter frame to eliminate that issue assuming that's even...
  4. Re: Schneider Super Angulon XL 47mm f5.6

That's not your fault, sir. I originally wrote 83x125mm and edited my post. The 38 XL surely won't properly illuminate 83x125mm. I do apologize for misspelling your name.
  5. Re: Schneider Super Angulon XL 47mm f5.6

Mr. Soloman, the hypotenuse of an 80x120mm image is 144mm which is only 7mm longer than Schneider's spec of 137mm for the 38 XL. Those 7mm outside of spec may not be ultra-sharp but the lens easily...
  6. Re: Schneider Super Angulon XL 47mm f5.6

Can it cover 80x120mm actual image size? It probably doesn't matter much if shooting 56x112mm (or thereabouts) without movements, but it does if using the full 120mm width of 4x5 film and only...
  7. Re: Using a mirrorscope lens for 4x5?

Please pardon my weak eyes. I read the lens type in the original post as "microscope".
  8. Re: Using a mirrorscope lens for 4x5?

Post deleted. I misread the question.
  9. Re: Schneider Super Angulon XL 47mm f5.6

I agree Joshua. Also, if one crops to a very slightly narrower ratio similar to 6x9 but using the full 5" width of the film it definitely illuminates that much. That's only about 147mm. It's pushing...

This is OFF TOPIC but, a certain member seems upset their posts are deleted due to rudeness. I for one, found at least one post unnecessarily rude, as well as self-righteous and arrogant. That poster...

Re: Case for Lenses on Boards?

Like Doremus, I have my lenses mounted on Technika boards for use on a 4x5 Chamonix. I have a Toyo-Technika adapter to use the same lenses on a Toyo monorail. Even if I didn't own the Chamonix I'd...

  14. Poll: Re: Film Sheaths and Adapters for Plate Holders

Indeed, especially if one has a whole-plate or 8x10 enlarger, or one capable of taking 5x8 like a Zone VI or another slightly oversized 5x7 model.

I'd be tempted to buy 5x8 sheaths just to have...
  15. Poll: Re: Film Sheaths and Adapters for Plate Holders

I'm not looking to buy any sheaths but if I was, it would be 5x8 to shoot half-sheet 8x10 film in a whole plate-camera.

I'll bet you $100, eBay will do nothing about the scam no matter how many times you report it and no matter what BS the agents tell you when you contact them.

Mr. Fromm, would I reverse the cells of a 105 Comparon?

Mr. Salomon, I need a lens I can afford to buy. I will look for a true macro but doubt I can afford one.

    4x5 Macro

Would something like a 100mm Symmar-S in #0 shutter with the cells reversed be an excellent performer for macro imaging in the 1:1 to 6:1 range? The Symmar-S is optimized for 1:3 with the cells in...

  23. Re: Canned-air discharge caused mark on lens. Removal suggestions?

I can't remember the last time I had a problem with this. Perhaps it was twenty years ago. I always expel the first ten percent of a new can. Yes, I waste the contents. Otherwise, the slightest angle...

Tuco, that last image is precisely (one of the reasons) why I like lenses with plenty of excess coverage. There are times when I want to move the straight-forward perspective off center.

It won't be cyber attacks that kill high-tech. It will be a massive EMP from a solar flare and/or global economic collapse.

Wow, I sold two or three of the very long Apo Nikkor process lenses many years ago for a very small fraction of that.

Paul, you're excellent at differentiation of order (the main subject) in the midst of chaos. That is not easy to accomplish. Bravo!!

  30. Re: Guillotine Shutters unusual sources

It seems to me, if the purpose of a shutter is to cut off the light, a guillotine is appropriate.

  32. Re: Petzval / Dallmeyer (or other) antique lens for glowing SF HALO effects

My choice is the common affordable Imagon but I don't like the effect of the 'strainer holes' so will only ever use the discs with those closed or the aperture built into the shutter.
