Re: 8x10 Portrait Camera Viewing Hood

This sun shade works well on an 8x10 camera. Just attach it to the back with strips of adhesive Velcro.

I set an exception for https://www.largeformatphotography.info in Firefox, so I could continue to access the site in spite of the expired certificate.

Dan, I've browsed a decade of your comments on this site and I'd expect nothing less than the above.

Re: A question on FS rule enforcement

The OP (it) spends more time on Photrio (formerly APUG/DPUG) where there's an open, friendly atmosphere and far less of the above.

Why does the Photrio For Sale forum function so smoothly when many of the people who sell here also sell there?

You bought a number of things from me through this site, Randy. Thank you for that.

Also, 70% of my large format equipment was bought here.

Re: A question on FS rule enforcement

I believe that the ability to dispose of and acquire used large format photographic equipment on this site is what keeps it alive. I don't think the role it plays should be underestimated.

Re: A question on FS rule enforcement

Are you saying that including the sentence I also have lenses for sale here at the bottom of a for sale post, where the word here is a link to an older for sale post, is considered gaming the system?

A question on FS rule enforcement

Why is it unacceptable to include a link in a for sale post to another for sale post within the For Sale/For Trade forum? Once a post leaves the first page, it's pretty much invisible for a month...

  21. Re: Beginning LF in the tradition of Alec Soth, Stephen Shore

Why don't you just get the same camera & lens as Alec Soth or Stephen Shore? Then you can't make any excuses about your equipment as you produce your images.

Re: Where to get a lens board drilled?

    Re: Feedback on moderation

My solution to the super-micromanagement and stifling policies that have taken over the for sale forum here, is to spend more time on APUG.
  24. Re: Polaroid 8x10 film holders more expensive than lenses?

I spoke to someone at Golden Engineering some time ago. The retail price of the field processor is $799.
  25. Re: Polaroid 8x10 film holders more expensive than lenses?

The "Calumet" field processor is still being made by its original manufacturer, Golden Engineering, Inc. of Centerville, Indiana. And yes, it's compatible only with the Polaroid 81-06 film holder.
  26. Re: to the mods, does lowering a price on a FS item constitute a bump

I believe you've underestimated how important the For Sale forum is to the viability/vibrancy of this website. And I'm sure Sean over at APUG thanks you for making his website that much more active.
  27. Re: to the mods, does lowering a price on a FS item constitute a bump

Bumps don't do anything on this site anymore, unless a user goes out of their way to change the sort order of the forum. I doubt that very many users would do this.

Once your For Sale post leaves...

Re: Looking for info – 8x10 viewing hood

Did you buy this on eBay a few years ago? It looks like the one I saw listed with user-added Sinar label. As far as I know, Sinar never made an 8x10 reflex viewer.

Re: Looking for info – 8x10 viewing hood

There was a Sinar-compatible 8x10 binocular viewer made by Horseman that I've come across a few times over the years. It was pretty much an 8x10 version of the common Sinar 4x5 binocular viewing hood.
  30. Re: Ebony Camera Going Out of Business? - Confirmed

To be fair, what cost $217.50 in 1976 would cost $914.88 in 2016 (Adjusted for inflation). But $914.88 is still a lot less than $2,000. Then again, a Nagaoka is not as pretty or refined as an Ebony.
  31. Re: Ebony Camera Going Out of Business?

Their prohibitive pricing had to limit their market. They could cut their prices in half and perhaps stay in business.
