    Re: 4x5 - 120 roll film backs?

Gridlines on your GG, by any chance? May well be centimeter lines...or the cardboard cutout works almost as well.

will send PM in a moment...

    Re: 4x5 - 120 roll film backs?

No -- you compose on the standard ground glass, then take it off, and put the back on to take the photo.

BTW, your PM inbox is full!

    Re: 4x5 - 120 roll film backs?

I have the Da Yi version. Works pretty well.

The two backs look pretty identical to me, and you can change format mid-roll with the Da Yi if you want to--but you have to be careful how you do it,...
  4. Re: Ebony 45S(U) questions re:6x17 and Ebony 617S

    Sam,

A dedicated 6x17 camera is ideal, but as Jeff pointed out, a 5x7 camera can also be made to serve. The Canham 6x17 roll-film back he refers to can work on at least one other 5x7 that I know...
  5. Re: Ebony 45S(U) questions re:6x17 and Ebony 617S

The big advantage of a dedicated 617 camera, as opposed to a 5x4 with a 617 adapter, is when using lenes of focal length 150mm or greater. As the lens is racked out further to get the longer lenses...

Re: Looking for a 617 camera

This is what I bought. Takes a week or two to turn up, and it's been so long since I purchased mine, I cannot be sure who supplied it to me, but I've found buying from China fine in the past.

Re: Looking for a 617 camera

There has been a lot of good advice here; however, let me add one extra point that is relevant to your choice of camera: movements.

The dedicated panoramic cameras, such as the Fuji G617 and...

Re: Copal 0 Aperture Ring Moves Too Easily

I've got a couple of lenses with this problem; after losing a couple of shots because the aperture changed due to tiny knocks whilst cocking the shutter, I experimented to find a solution.

Re: Hi from Scotland (original, eh?)

    Pat,

Let me add my own welcome to you. This forum, and UKLFUG, are both great places to hang out, and learn about LF.

If you ever get up to the Highlands, I'll be happy to meet up, and pass on...

Re: Please show your 6x17 pictures

FWIW, I use a Da Yi 6x17 back, on a 5x4 camera dedicated pretty much 100% to the 617 format (a Walker 5x4 XL), and the lenses in my kit are 72mm, 90mm, 120mm and 210mm. Lachlan 617 is correct to say...

    Re: recessed Lense boards

A recessed board won't give you greater coverage from the lens; it simply makes movements easier, due mainly to reducing the compression of the bellows. If you are running out of coverage from your...

    Re: My New Maxwell Screen

    Bob,

In July I contacted Bill Maxwell concerning a screen for my Ebony 45SU. He sent me a very informative email by return. His HI-LUX Brilliant Matte 4.7 screen was $295, and the Ultra Brilliant...

Re: If you could buy any tripod ...

    Paul,

Consider a Gitzo 1548GT (old model number). Though it has six leg sections, it gives immense flexibility for landscape work, given its extra potential height. I really like mine.

    Re: Replacement ballhead - suggestions?

If a ballhead is acceptable, consider a Burzynski head. I use one on a G1548, and I really like its low weight, and the low centre of gravity the head provides. It also locks RIGID. Designed for long...

Re: Which Large Format Camera for a Newbie

For landscape work, you will be well served with a 5x4 field camera, rather than a monorail, for reasons of size and weight, at least to start with. Since you seem to be leaning that way anyway,...

Re: Recommendations to buy 4x5 in UK?

I believe Acros 100 5x4 is only available as Quickloads in the UK -- that's what RW stocks, anyway. I did ask them a year ago, and a quick search of their website today seems to confirm this.

    You...
  18. Re: anyone know anything about the AMVONA tripod?

    Conor,

While I can't comment from experience of the tripod and head you are considering, I did note that the max height of the tripod (without head) is only 57" -- that's 4ft 9in. Even with a ball...

Re: which neg film for landscapes?

A 3200dpi scan of a 5x4 yields me 14800x11700 pixels. I use an Epson 3800 for printing, and I invariably print at 360dpi, which would result in a 41"x32" print. Since I can only print to 17" wide, I...

Re: which neg film for landscapes?

    Dav,

I find PRO160S works well, esp. on sunny days. Slightly lower colour saturation than the "C", but printing digitally one can always tweak that a little before output if you wish.

Re: Could you shoot this idea apart

The Schneider 120mm f5.6 APO L is one small, fine lens. My most used focal length. Very sharp, even down to f64.

Bag bellows on Ebony 45SU: worthwhile?
