  1. Re: Repolishing old lenses with fungus, balsam separation

With re cementing elements back together you're basically working with two elements that have already been optically aligned
and post finished ( edge grinding, etc. ) you just want a jig to hold...
  2. Re: Repolishing old lenses with fungus, balsam separation

There is a slight eccentricity of the lens elements, but I don't think that doublet is final, it may be destined for
more grinding if it were to be a final lens or not it was a demo more of the...

  4. Re: Repolishing old lenses with fungus, balsam separation

Plain old plaster of paris to use as a jig for lens alignment is such a bad idea, all gypsum products expand as they set ( from exotherm ) your jig will be loose fitting

You can always replace the bad wiring if you're handy at that, and even if you're not.
Most of that wiring is prety simple, just do one wire at a time, just make sure it's unplugged. ;)

    Nice job !
I think based on the pictures posted the teeth form on the gears aren't correct, that could be where your banding is coming from.

    Hi John,
Powdered graphite would work too, I prefer the spray, the particles in the spray seems finer, both are messy.

The red rubber hose looks crispy to me, it might be leaking from a crack somewhere on the hose causing pressure loss
I'd check that first. Especially near the nipple at the bottom of the piston.
