  1. Re: Older Arca ball head, anyone know if the camera platform is removable?

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I’m going to go try and check it out in person next weekend if it hasn’t sold already.
  2. Re: Older Arca ball head, anyone know if the camera platform is removable?

Unfortunately, I don't have that option unless I buy it!
  3. Older Arca ball head, anyone know if the camera platform is removable?

Hopefully someone knows! I found an older Arca monoball locally at a good price, but I'm unfamiliar with this particular version. Can the platform be removed so that I can install a QR...
  4. Anyone have experience fixing a Rittreck View?

I just picked up a Rittreck View 4x5 to fix up and modify. Most of it seems pretty straightforward and easy to disassemble/reassemble, but if any of you have worked on one and have tips, I'd like to...
  5. Re: Nagaoka cameras are still made in Japan. The story of a wooden LF craftsman.

I'm in Saitama City, near Urawa Station. I currently have a 4x5, but for now no lens, film holders, or place to develop, so I'm temporarily out of the large format game, but always want to meet other...
  6. Re: Nagaoka cameras are still made in Japan. The story of a wooden LF craftsman.

I had no idea! I would love to go, especially if I could get permission to photograph him in his workshop, but my Japanese is still too rough for that. I live nearby. This is going to dominate my...

  10. An invitation to a personal project I want to open up to everyone

I have a small personal project I've been working on the last few years, and would like to get other people involved starting this year. The basic idea is to plan and make a photograph with an...

  12. Re: Advice on a spare-time project? 4x4 back and holders

Ok, so there’s a lot I want to respond to point-by-point. Good ideas are happening and I appreciate all the responses. I’ll follow up in greater detail when I’m not on a moving train.

    Also, as...
  13. Re: Advice on a spare-time project? 4x4 back and holders

A gentle nudge re: all replies thus far: masking the GG, holder, etc isn't what I'm after. I'm going to modify a back and either make or modify a set of holders that will shoot 4x4" cut film...
  14. Advice on a spare-time project? 4x4 back and holders

I've had an idea lodged in my head for a long enough time that I want to start work on it. There is no deadline, I don't mind working slowly in my spare minutes and hours to make something...

Re: Current options for 95mm filters

Update: I got the lens back from the shop two days ago, and I'll have to re-measure when I'm not as tired, but pretty sure the OD is 102mm, so that Lee holder probably won't work for me. I had one...

    Re: Goodbye Acros Sheet Film

I suspect ACROS 120 is still safe for now, but given it's my main thing, I'm tempted to buy a small freezer (because tiny apartment) and stuff it full of as many pro-packs as possible just in case.

Re: safe haven for tiny formats

It was a very damp weekend, but never seeing the tops of the mountains actually added a lot of atmosphere. Still, I'm hoping for better weather when I go back in a few weeks.
  23. Re: A really new tripod system . . .it rolls up!

It's a cool idea. Not really practical, but cool. I'd like to see how this idea will have developed in 5 or 10 years. Great ideas often have funky, fairly impractical beginnings.

  26. Re: If you had no batteries, would you stay home?

My legs need only a handful of calories to carry me, my Hasselblad wouldn't know what to do with a battery. If all batteries ceased to exist/work, I'd be even more likely to get out and about.

Re: Best tripod head for 4x5 camera?

For what it's worth, this is something I could do in a month or so after I've finished the move I'm in the middle of. I've got both on hand and could borrow a 4x5 for it.
