  2. Re: 110mm Super Symma Hazer—Schneider Drops the Ball

I had the haze problem on an 80 mm that I bought from Jeff at Badger Graphics. I had a local pro repair shop clean the haze off but the haze reappeared within a year. The haze problem occurred about...
  3. Re: So, how often do you really use your camera's movements?

    [QUOTE=Michael_4514;928554]+1.

Like a lot of others here, I use movements almost all the time, but not all the movements most of the time. Usually, just rise and a little tilt.

    Same here....

Re: Is large format photography on the rise?

My only exposure to other large format photographers is this forum and I don't know anybody personally who uses a large format camera in my circle of friends. I don't feel like it is on the rise and...

    Re: The role of solitude

I prefer solitude. My concentration is much better when I am alone as I tend to not give my full attention to the subject/finding the composition when others are around.

    Re: Cable release adapter madness

I used one of these when I was using a recessed board on my Toyo to solve the problem that you are having. I also used what Frank mentioned also and it worked fine.

  7. Re: Was there a sign for you that you weren't (or were) a LF photographer?

There have been times during my years of shooting 4 x 5 large format whether I was suited for the task. The frustrations of missing a step leading to the exposure (i.e. forgetting to reset the...
  8. Re: Any thoughts or stories on hiking ZNP's The Narrows...

No problem taking a field camera in. Depending on the water level and your height you might get the bottom of the pack wet in certain spots but most of the hike is knee to crotch level deep for me....

    Re: Photobackpacker Backpack Design Input

    Bruce,

No to #1 and #3. Yes to #2 but not for pens, or business cards. I put small miscellaneous, photo equipment in it.
  10. Re: Toyo 45A Question - Back tilt when tightened

    John,
On my Toyo 45A with the back tilted and the two knobs on either side tightened the back does not budge. I only applied enough force to slide my Quickload holder in and it held tight.

Re: the wave - secret location?

In case anybody is thinking about going to the old location near Big Water to try to score some walk-in permits, the year round location is now in Kanab, across from the Wendy's in town. The...

Re: the wave - secret location?

A secret location, no it is not. One of the lucky few, yes. I think I have donated my 5 bucks applying for online Wave permits at least 10 times so far and so far I've been one of the unlucky many to...

    Re: yosemite in January

I would agree with John on the going slow part or at least stay within the posted speed limit on 120. I've seen on two occasions where there were vehicles laying on their sides and from talking to...

    Re: yosemite in January

Thanks Preston, that's a big correction. I wouldn't want anybody getting confused and lost out there. Highway 49 was not a fun drive, too windy so now I go all the way down highway 99 to Merced and...

    Re: yosemite in January

Yes, carry chains. Watch the weather reports and check the nps.gov website for road status for road closures. Have as a backup plan to go through highway 140 if highway 120 is closed. It will add...

    Re: Yosemite mid December?

There are wood cabins in Curry Village, some with their own showers that are not as bad as staying in a canvas tent.
  18. Re: Things You Never Thought You'd Learn from Large Format Photography

I learned that where I have set up my tripod with the 4 x 5 is the best spot to shoot a particular shot because why else would all the point and shoot people shoot right over my shoulder all the...

Re: Ebony Focusing - the three hands problem

  20. Re: What laws do you break to get the shots you want?

None, at least not intentionally. I think it's bad karma to break the law to get the shot. That doesn't mean that I'm an angel when it comes to breaking the law in general but I don't think a shot is...

    Re: Lens hood or not???

I do not use a lens hood when I shoot. If I notice that the sun is shining directly on my lens then I install the Ebony clip on the hot shoe and clip on the ground glass protector to shade the lens.
