i'd love to see your india photos if you ever put them up anywhere.
when i was in delhi in march, i found a place on chadni chowk that had portra 160 in 4x5. sorry to say i don't know the name but i got there by asking around for photo chemicals. it's on the south...
i'm going to be over there in march and april with my graphic and would love to hook up with anybody for a chai and camera (or any other kind of) conversation. my schedule and itinerary are flexible...
i totally agree.

i didn't think about the color vs b&w thing when i voted, and it's different for each. shooting 4x5, negative all the way for b&w, but for color, i just discovered how much of a pain it is to get...
r.e. that is a great picture.
here's some digital photos of one of these guys in action:

also, if $5 is too expensive for you, i put a piece of tape on the mark where the non-cut edge is supposed to line up on the paper cutter. you can just run your fingernail over it and find it. easy.
it's funny, the first pack of the 4x5 i got fit straight into the holders. ever pack since i have had to cut down with a paper cutter. it's like an 1/8 of an inch.
cheers. i was in lower gifford pinchot this weekend (lots of lillies and general gorgeousness) but have never been to helens. not a great day today, but soon. :)
forlorn lakes, wa.

oh, but there's a GREAT taqueria across the street...surely they could eat there...?
j/k i know what you mean ;)
hey cool, i'm up that way a lot. i'll definitely check it out. blue moon seems to be the nexus for a new photo community up there, which is great. do they stock a lot of sheet film? i usually get...
i've been thinking about this a lot recently, as i'm planning on taking the 4x5 to the third world next march. it occurs to me that in most of the places that i've stayed, getting the room dark...
i read a site today that was talking about these processes changing over time and it got me worried a little. i don't shoot fill to scan, i really just want this stuff to be around for a long time,...
thanks jim, i found two of those nuts but not the ones on the tank side. i'll look a little harder.
i bought this CPE at a garage sale and the motor worked for a second before quitting. i'd like to open it up and see if i can't get it to work, but after a lot of headscratching i can't figure out...
thanks folks, i'll check out those places.
i've just received an ica with a compur that needs some help in the slower speeds. thanks folks.
wow, i am impressed that you found this. any ideas as to how i could find the instructions for the lift?
ask and ye shall receive, apparently. i found a CPE-2 with lift and a bunch of tanks at a garage sale for $60. the guy used it extensively for color and was not neat, so now i just have to figure...
you can even do it in daylight and will only lose the top exposure.
i just do one at a time. but i *did not* lift and rotate, which i will now do.

thanks for the condolences folks, this was totally one of those "right camera at the right time" moments and to blow the processing so egregiously...agh!
anyway: agitation. yes, i didn't...
please excuse all the dirt and noise on this photo, obv. i've a ways to go in the clean room dept. but this is a photo i processed that has some problems i was wondering if someone here could help...
i have been using the light on my watch and maybe it's just the way i have the trays but i have no problems.
i had a guy in Jaipur take my picture

and ever since i have been fascinated with this process. i saw it again in the movie "Burden of Dreams"...
totally agree. plus you can simulate different film types on the fly.
