The Rodenstock 210/5.6 APO-Sironar-S is superb. I use it for landscapes and in all respects (sharpness, contrast, color) it is a winner.
Has anyone used the Wista 45DX or 45DXII ? I am interested in your impressions regarding build quality, rigidity, and ease of use. Please, no comments or sugge stions on other cameras. It would be...
First off, sorry that my list wasn't in HTML format. I looked for a link which would provide instruction on how to tag the sites, but couldn't find one. Second, the first Lightjet print is always a...
I have been maintaining a list for a while now. Here's what I have: Bruce Bennett labs, http://www.brucebennett.com/ Calypso Imaging, http://www.calypsoinc.com/ Color Folio,...
FW: All of my prints are digital these days. I shoot only color transparencies, in 4x5. The film is developed at my local "pro" lab, then I send it off to the printer. A good digital printer needs...
I agree with Wayne: I believe that "digital", in terms of image capture, is a fad. It might well replace the point-and-shoot for people who care only for snapshots, but will never supplant ANY...
Consider the Fujinon 300/8.5 "C". Very small, light, and sharp.
The Schneider 110/5.6 XL. For 4x5. Don't leave home without it.
Have you considered the Fuji 210/5.6 CM-W? Or the Rodenstock 210/5.6 APO-Sironar N? I don't have the specs for either of these. I do use the Rodenstock 210/5.6 APO-S, which is large. I believe the...
Bob, according to the Nikkor brochure I have, the rear mount size of the 75mm/4.5 SW is 60mm; the rear mount size of the 210mm/5.6 W is 60mm as well.
ENOUGH already!
The short answer is: the 110/5.6 XL is incredible. I'd be shocked if it didn't become your favorite lens.
Sean: yes.
The degree of polarization does not affect the filter factor.
If you use the Pentax digital spotmeter, as many do, get a 40.5mm polarizer that will fit the threaded mount in front of the meter...
Howard, I have my LightJet prints mounted on plexiglass. I wouldn't use board or foamcore; sometimes the mounting machine leaves impressions.
That would explain why you can buy a Schneider 72/5.6 XL lens from Robert White in the U.K., WITH the center filter, for less than the cost of the lens alone at B&H.
The clear choice for a first landscape lens: the Schneider 110/5.6 XL.
I'll add to all the above. I've had great experiences with Badger. Have no hesitation.
That's the Fuji 450/12.5 C, with an image circle of 486mm.
You might want to consider the Fujinon 450mm. MUCH smaller and lighter than the Nikkor, uses a Copal 1 board.
Roger: I use the following: 75mm Nikkor; 110XL Schneider; 210 Rodenstock APO-S; and 300/8.5 Fuji C. The 110XL is fantastic. The Fuji is small, lighter than the Nikkor M, has a greater image circle...
Have you tried the newsgroup rec.photo.marketplace.large-format ?
Todd: The Schneider 110/5.6 XL was the first lens I got for my 4x5. It came recommended by the dealer, and by Keith Canham, who I respect immensely (I own the Canham DLC). Anyway, I wanted a...
Try either of these: 300mm/9 M Nikkor, or 300mm/8.5 C Fujinon. Both are small and light (the Fuji only 250 g), and use a #1 shutter. Both will give sharp portraits.
Can anyone suggest a platinum printer? The older threads list one individual in northern California, but his web site states that he does printing for others on ly occasionally. Does anyone do this...
Can anyone suggest a lab or individual who does dye-transfer printing? Evercolor 's web site suggests that they do, but when I received their promotional materia ls in the mail, there was nothing...
Paul: I concur with Ellis, as usual. The Canham 45DLC and the 300mm Nikkor is an excellent portrait combination, which I use myself for (among other things) portraits of friends and family. With a...
When using a center filter on, say, a 75mm lens, where the filter spec states th at use is optimized for f/16, what is the effect when shooting at f/22 or f/32 ? What sort of correction or...
The best method is to place your filter in front of your spot meter and take a reading through the filter; then place the filter on the lens and shoot. For filters used frequently (for me, a...
Terry: I just got back from 5 days at Bryce Canyon and the north rim of the Grand Canyon with 60 sheets of exposed Provia 100F (RDP-III). I go to these parks every year. The short answer is: I may...
Calumet still sells the Zone-VI modified Pentax spotmeters. They are priced a little over $600 and are worth every penny. The modifications include: a series of baffles to eliminate flare; an...
First law of the universe: EVERYTHING is supply and demand. Plus, it's a damn good meter (buy through Calumet and get the Zone-VI modified version. Superb!!!).
I've used the 110/5.6 XL for over a year now. It is fabulous: extremely sharp and contrasty. People who have seen the 4x5 chromes I've taken with it are blown away. In 4x5 format, it is equivalent...
I started with the Canham DLC, as did three other people in the Santa Fe worksho p I took. It's a marvelous camera, light weight, controls very intuitively laid out, and no need for a bag bellows. It...
I have a Toyo 3.6X loupe and a Schneider 4X loupe. I am nearsighted, and even wi th glasses on under the darkcloth (a hassle) I have trouble with fine focussing of distant objects with both of these...
Any advice on choosing between Rodenstock's APO Sironar-S and -N for the 210/5.6 focal length? I do mostly landscape, but would like to eventually learn portra it work and basic architectural work....
I bought a Zone VI modified Pentax digital spot from Calumet last year. Incredib ly accurate!!! Well worth the $500+ you'll pay. I would never part with mine.
