I've often wondered if the lens design is the same as the final ones though.

I can believe that Abbe could work this out. I wonder when that was ?
The Cooke triplet was by H. Dennis Taylor at Cooke, I believe the UK patent was from 1893, and the US patent from 1895, but he...
Very good indeed !
What a great find - this is a really impressive lens.
Tell me more, Arri ... about Abbe
PM me if you don't want to divert this thread.
I have an unused roll bought c.2012 upstairs.
Would you like me to check if I can find the brand ?
It was probably bought from Firstcall Photographic in the UK.
Probably the easiest option.
Yes, so use with caution.
I did mix up and try WD2H recently ( a minor variant on WD2D+ ) and found very little image stain on the Fomapan, which was not what I expected, given the more alkaline 'B'...
Eg. here, Page 4 :
It's a option he gives for removing anti-halation dyes.

Ah Ok that saved me some problems.
However I don't want to prolong the pre-wash too much, while the Pyro has been mixed and is oxidising.
Does John Wimberley's wash combination (above) make more...
Yes, I switched from an alkaline fix to an acid fix yesterday, that was the change. So it makes sense you never have problems with TF-4 , I didn't with Moersch.
Everything else is fine.
Thanks Michael, the sodium sulphite worked a treat.
The dye was gone within 2 or 3 minutes.
I will try some in the pre-wash next time.
Thanks for the others who replied too.
Dave - I like the...
OK thanks. It was fresh fix ( made up tonight ) and about a 20min wash, but let's see what the sulphite/sulphite bath does tomorrow. I will report back.
Edit : just found another relevant comment,...
OK thanks. I just bought some new sodium sulphite to help with the FB paper toning process.
Can I apply this after the fact ( eg. tomorrow ) ?
Hi All
I have developed a few small batches of Foma 200 5x7" recently, but fixed them all with an existing bottle of Moersch alkaline fix.
Today I discarded that and mixed up some 1+4 Hypam.
I...
Paul sums it up very well.
All you need is some sunshine... been in short supply recently.

Projection TV lenses were F/1.2 or faster !
Alan you are more or less correct, though a 135 is generally fine to 6x. I have spent a lot of time looking at datasheets recently for my own purposes ( to enlarge to 16x20" ) but for...
Interesting. I sold a Nikkor 50/2.8 N recently but kept the 63mm. I bought an Apo-Rodagon N 50 at a good price. I should really check performance of the 63mm against this, for interest.
It's an...
63mm ?
I have the 63mm f/2.8 'N', the earlier one I think was f/3.5 ?
Thanks, I dug out some of the info on that one.
It's interesting that it's a double-gauss type construction, unlike all of the other premium brands which are Plasmats. I wonder if the 105 is the...
Nice subject !

How do you know which blade to put on first, and how do you know whether they go on anti-clockwise or clockwise ?
It should be great.
I think this market has got very confused with people using enlarger lenses for macro 35mm work. Maybe the older El-Nikkor 135 has some cult following ?
I myself just went...
Yes, agreed.
I received a 100 Componon-S from the US this week, it was loosely wrapped in bubble wrap, without any sellotape, and then stuffed into a Jiffy bag. I have no idea what some people are...

I have no idea what you're talking about.
Very cool.
I'm wondering if it's that a more 'pointed' aperture shape makes the transition between being in focus and slightly out of focus more obvious - ie. it snaps into focus a little more clearly ?
ps....
Hi and welcome to the forum. Lots of good info here.
It will do that, but the pattern will be modified, with some 10-fold symmetry, and a little more energy in the rings. However the effect on MTF ( ie. for most continuous subjects) is likely to be...
The Ilford filters come in 6" square if you want. I'm doing more or less what ic-racer is doing , with a 210 Schneider. Currently I'm just resting them on an empty red-filter holder, but there's a...
Well, you're not looking for bokeh on an enlarging lens.
There must be some reason Schneider did this, and I'm not sure why. it's not a cheap diaphragm either, it's dual-layer.
Surely a strong-ish Cyan filter is what's needed ?
That's a lot of hard work to frame up that many prints. Nice shots !
If from 2005 it will be the final version of the Componon-S, the ones with the blue illuminated scale. You'd have to go back pre-80's for it to be a 'Non S' .
I would advise testing that you get the quality you need in the corners with a 135 Nikkor at higher magnifications.
On paper you can see ( from looking eg. at all Schneider Componon-S lenses ) that...
Yes, I'm not sure still that I am 100% sure of every control.
The DeVeres are well know for their front controls, but I did find the focus on the 504 rather too coarse, it could have done with a...
Yes, the DeVere 504 is more solid than a 138 S. I used one regularly, years ago. You would not ( like I did on Monday ) knock the enlarger head off-centre slightly by catching your head on the neg...
