Comparing three different Pentax Digital Spotmeters available to me show up to a stop difference between them. It is best to just use one meter and learn to compensate for it's particular...
Get the universal bellows, I have it on my 45SU and it is a joy to be able to use all my lenses, even my 58XL, without any issues.
IIRC, enlarging lenses (EL) are flat field where most taking lenses are not, and I believe ELs have higher resolution.
One time Bruce Barnbaum told me that at one of his printing workshops while orienting some students to his darkroom he heard a person around the corner using his paper cutter. He went to check it...
Get as many of them as you can!!!!!!! I currently have the 240mm and 305mm G-Clarons and I used to have the 270mm lens. They have a lot of coverage and are extremely sharp and contrasty. In fact...
45, so I am about average, huh? Been doing LF for about 17 years in formats from 6x9 through 11x14.. I also run a custom b&w photo lab, Labwork, in Cleveland, Ohio for all those who do not do...
I'm suprised you don't find the 90XL to be that sharp. My 90/8 SA is quite sharp so I would have thought the XL would be sharp. If you do not need a large image circle get the 90/8 lens. A...
What Sandy explained is the same principal I was explaining about rotating the camera and using shift to reset the edges of the image to what was desired. This is most effective with wide angle...
I have rear and front shift on my camera. Using shift is very handy for fine tuning a composition, especially with a wide angle lens. As you rotate the camera side to side(pan)you will see the...
I have been using Omega enlargers with Ilford Multigrade 500 heads on them for years. The enlarger is okay as long as it is wall mounted or at least braced at the top; the MG500 head is really a ...
I have been using Omega D series enlargers with Ilford Multigrade 500 heads on them for years. The enlarger is okay as long as it is wall mounted or at least braced at the top; the MG500 head is...
There is something to said for pride of ownership. If you have the means, get the Ebony. Down the road you may ask yourself: Why didn't I just get the "---------" in the first place instead of a...
Ilford makes HP5+ in ULF sizes, try and find a dealer there who will order it for you.
Whoever told you that the lens panel is only supported at the bottom was wrong. It is held in by a slot at the bottom and a sliding lever at the top just like most view cameras out there. Rest...
Your Toyo 45A should easily handle the weight of the 90/8 lenses you are considering; why do you feel they will be too heavy?
I have tried one and it is really wide! There is enough image circle for some movement, this on a 5x7 Technika V. I also tried my 58XL on the same camera; obviously not a big enough image circle...
You forgot about the Schneider 305/9 G-Claron lens. This is a plasmat type lens with a very large image circle of 381mm. From all accounts this is a conservative specification. Yes it is single...
To fix the leak buy a Jobo 3005 Expert Drum and use the Unicolor drum for a planter. You will be able to process up to 5 sheets at a time with about a quart(32 oz.)of chemistry.
If you are thinking of a used camera try Midwest Photo Exchange in Columbus, Ohio. They usually have a good selection of cameras that will meet your needs and great service to boot. I have bought...
My experience is that almost anything is brighter than regular GG. I have used Beattie screens and they were quite bright, considerably so than GG. Now I have an Ebony and the screen on that...
I used to use that lens on a Technika V; you will not have enough bellows to get to 1/2 life size. At full extension with the bellows tight as a drum you get about 430mm. I'd suggest the 150mm...
Fuji has an adapter to accept lenses mounted in Linhof Technika lensboards but given the limited range of movements on the GX680 it would be a waste of the capabilities of most LF lenses. Even...
I used to have the original PhotoTrekker and recently got the PT AW. Highly recommended, better harness, larger and still cary-on-able for airline travel.
When will digital equal the cost of film for the same amount of data and resolution? At around 50-75 cents a sheet of film I think it will be a very long time coming. Can you take your digital...
To quote Kuniko Yamaguchi of Ebony: "Could we forward some information of the maintenance of your 45SU? The ebony wood is not coated with any laquer, but soaked in a special oil. Therefore, the...
Polaroid prints have very poor resolution so count on luping the prints to check sharpness.
I had a 270 G-Claron when I had my Wista 45vx which has 300mm of extension and it worked out great on a flat lens board. The G-Claron series of lenses are really superb, I now have the 240mm and...
I had a simlar problem years ago with Toyo holders but it turned out the problem was a defective batch of film. I realized this since I was using two different kinds of film in the same holders...
I too have a Rolleiflex 3.5E with a Planar lens, this is my "point and shoot" camera when I want to travel light. The image quality is superb, especially with T-max 100 film.
Andy,
How does an umbrella block time of exposure?
About ten years ago I went to medium format from 4x5 and I was not truly happy because of the lack of movements primarily. I had a Hasselblad which produced excellent image quality but there were...
Actually, the fact that a lens is on a recessed board does not change the bellows extension since the extension is related to the lenses focal legnth and not bellows draw. If I have a 210mm lens...
I find the #8 yellow to be too weak to really be useful. I would start with a #12 yellow as the minimum, then add #15 deep yellow and #25 red filters so this way you get a good range with the...
If you get an Arca-Swiss F-Metric with the micrometric Orbix then you would have geared shift and rise on the front and back standards in addition to the geared front axis tilt. It is the Metric...
Walter,
If you are concerned about the wide angle "efficiency" of your Linhof, why not consider an Ebony 45SU. I recently replaced my Technika with this camera and believe me the wide angle...
I have an independent ISP but for the past few days I have been having all sorts of problems with newsgroups being deleted and other online problems. Anybody have any idea what's going on?
As long as the filter size is not larger than 52mm the lens should fit even with a flat lensboard; my 240 G-Claron fits in with a flat board.
I second the vaseline, works like a charm.
