Interesting perspective Thomas.
Really? You must go to a different league of cameras clubs than I give presentations at. One of the reasons I hesitate giving talks at them (and I have probably given 50 or so) is that I've never had...
Show me an example?
Oren I don't know how old you are, But I would suggest that people who grew up in the time when newspaper photographs were all B&W (like me) would see B&W as more real? Going to UNM in the late 60's...
Ken, I think that last statement is better expressed as I rather than WE as there is no consensus as to what is Fine Art Photography and images at both extremes are commonly sold in galleries and...
I like that Lenny.
That's just some ahole trying to get a rise out of people by making a blanket pronouncement. He is trolling (though I think there is some merit in his idea). I guess there is a hint of that in my...
Absolutely. It is totally what I think about my own work and as I am often giving talks about my work I would like to understand it better.
I absolutely feel the validity of this statement, but how would you defend it in a crowd of serious color photographers? :)
Guys. Sorry I wasn't clear. I'm not looking for affirmation-looking for discusion. I'm not looking to simply my thoughts for the masses but deepen my own understanding.
For me personally the...
What do you think of this statement of mine-describing why I prefer B&W photography for my personal work:
Exactly. I have never figured out a realistic working definition of performance art (I feel like I know it when I see it), but to me this is not it FWIW. But since he studied cognitive science he may...
Beautiful!
Peter, I don't know if this really says anything but I went to this website and looked at the top step wedge. I can clearly discern every step in both the shadows and highlights....
Hmm. Not sure how to test that. I use a ColorMunki Display calibration. I looked back at some of my some of my best B&W with puffy sunlit thunderheads and they look fine. But all of these files would...
Maybe I'm clueless but...................................
At both universities I teach at I get to use top of the line Eizo's. I also have friends with virtually every high end wide gamut monitor...
Whoa!!! Really nice!
I went to buy another one and the price just jumper up like $6.
Paletti is coming here in a couple of weeks with Leslie and we are going to invade the SF Opera after our own pre-party..................................................keep an eye on the news.
Oh my god! Deja Vu.............
Just picked up a Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24" LED LCD Monitor on Amazon for $275-hell of a monitor for that price. Beats the hell out of my Lacie 319 that just died.
...
Don't get the magazine but good for him-well deserved.
Its a good one-well done Steve.
Is her grammar really that bad? I guess CEOs aren't what they used to be either.
If you consider having something posted on the web as being published, you now have literally millions of amateur photographers being published in ways that was simply not possible before the...
Agreed-but when you let someone steal it and just let the illegality go and not call them on it (yes it is your choice OF COURSE) you are not giving it away. You are IMHO encouraging future theft by...
So I don't know what you do for a living, but if someone took the product of your labor from you and sold it for their profit I guess you wouldn't care? Its all to be shared right?
Its called...
ditto
LOL! I would want to clone myself if that was the situation. I don't teach them all at the same time as they are in three different cities-Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Chicago. Right now in Santa Fe...
Good for you. I'm not familiar with that program, but that doesn't mean much. I teach at three universities. It can be a good experience if you are self motivated and it sounds like you are.
Where are you going to school?
Welcome. We are all students here!
I would think if the monitors calibrate you are in good shape. Have you calibrated the monitors? Its a pretty simple test that should tell you all you need to know. Perhaps you are over thinking this?
I had a commercial shoot in SF today and during a break my assistant and I went to the Clift exhibit and then over to Andrew Smith's. My third trip so far to the Clift. I have at least one more...
very cute!
This is a serious project and very worth supporting IMHO guys. Lets help out like we did with Bill Schwab!
great effort great recognition.
Don't just test but look at whether it fits into your work method and subject matter. There is nothing lazy about not using a compendium. Its a choice one makes balancing many factors. It has a lot...
FWIW I've never used anything but my hand, my darkslide or my hat since starting LF in 1978.
So true-size of enlargement is key to whether you can get away with small apertures or not. I only have shot 4x5 for many years. Sometimes dof is paramount and I need to stop down to f45. I know when...
