    Re: Photographer's Formulary Kallitype

The differences are all spelled out on PF's site:

Click on the Technical info to see more details about how to go about using the kits.
  2. Re: Change of density at film hanging clips on dip-dunk processing

Seems like the clips are distorting the film enough to cause some preferential development (due to turbulence) in those areas, increasing the silver density in the vicinity. Are there other clip...

    Re: Ilford Rapid Fix considerations

True. With salt prints (made per a particular set of process conditions,) I did my own testing using residual hypo test and found that 4 (or 5 for safety) fill/dumps of 10 minutes each were...

    Re: Ilford Rapid Fix considerations

Very useful insight into the issue of archival washing (continuous vs fill and dump) here:

    Re: post alternative techniques

    Wow, this is amazing...and lovely.

Every time I see fenugreek seeds in my pantry, I note to myself - I must try this for cyanotype toning - I bet it would make a good toner given that it is...

Re: Fixer: What does the dissolving?

Water is the person pushing the cart made up of sodium thiosulfate and the cargo is silver halides.

    Re: Printing-Out Paper?

Yes, but you get wonderful chocolate browns with selenium toning:

I had bought a pack sometime in the mid-2000's, perhaps one of the last ones...

Re: Please help "Sodium Metaborate" alternative

You can use the 10% sodium metaborate formula that you cite. However you will have to make changes to DK-50 and DK-50R accordingly to account for use of 10% solution rather than the solid sodium...

Re: Dry Mount Press Best Practices

I don't do the #4 as well, i.e. pre-fusing the tissue to the back of the photo. Instead:

    3) Tack the tissue at a single place on one corner after aligning the print with the tissue at that corner...

Re: Dry Mount Press Best Practices

I use it occasionally....works fine. The problem is it wrinkles up after the first use - at least the brand (not Martha Stuart...:)) I tried. So I use a new one every time.

    Re: Use of inert gases

    - CO2 has some solubility in water, so the solution will absorb it to form carbonic acid reducing the pH.

    - different gases have different densities, but it does not mean they separate as they...

Re: Alternatives To Grain Focusing Loupe?

It does have auto-focus like the normal camera mode. Don't know if it is sensitive enough to look at the grain and focus on it. So might have to find a an edge or something to provide an adequate...

Re: Alternatives To Grain Focusing Loupe?

Wild idea: iPhone has a magnifier app. Probably Androids do too. You can probably make a stand or something to hold it steady and check out the focus.

    Re: Salt Printing

In salt prints there is a propensity to get "dark" staining, depending on the particular paper + chemistry. So the longer you keep it before exposure, greater are chances of a fogged print. I would...
  16. Re: Using Lithium chloride as a toner for salt prints

Most likely, the lithium toner that you might have seen was actually a gold toner with lithium carbonate or some such lithium salt as an additive like the one described here at the bottom left:
